Warm milk and a turkey sammich.

I agree with you about the pills. Sleeping pills suck. When I was on disability, my sleeping rhythm got so far out of whack it was ridiculous. I tried Unisom. It took 2-3 hours to kick in, and the next day it felt like someone dumped concrete into my head while I slept. I was so lethargic and useless the next day it was pathetic.

I've only had Ambien once, when I was in the hospital. It worked, and I felt refreshed the next day, but I've heard horror stories about that stuff... I heard a story where one guy woke up driving on an interstate: Sleep-Driving. I don't know how much truth is behind that, but the very idea horrifies me, and I've heard many similar anecdotes.

So, warm milk, soothing music, maybe a nice hot shower/bath and put something really lame on TV like CSPAN or Dharma & Greg.

Hey thanks Toxick :howdy: My sister told me about Melatonin and I am actually researching it now. Not sure if I want to try this.

Yeah I don't even take aspirin. No pills for me. I have never even tried ambien and like you have heard horror stories.

I am going to try some warm milk and bad tv like you suggested. Peace

Melaltonin is something your brain produces naturally. When you take it, you are just adding more because your not producing enough on your own. We have been using it for YEARS!! I travel a lot, and it helps me with jet lag, and it has NO lasting effects. GNC sells it in 1mg pills that you just chew up, and you are done. It has a slight cherry flavor, and it is recommended for up to 3mg/day.

You could also try chamomile tea. There are also several "calming" herbal teas on the market.

I have had good luck with Celestial Seasonings herbal Sleepytime tea. It doesn't make you groggy but you definitely relax and there are no side effects.

As Tox suggested, turkey has tryptophans (sp?) which make you drowsy.

Good luck!

Not being funny or a wiseguy here, but sex works well. Very easy to fall asleep after that.

Melatonin is quite safe. It helps reset your sleep cycles.

Melatonin just isn't working for me. I take one pill around 9:30pm fall asleep around 11-11:30pm and then I'm wide awake at 3am. Sucks because I have to get up at 5:15am to get ready for work.

Stress is a wonderful thing, not.

I miss Dharma and Greg. Jenna Elfman...

I had to come off the Ambien a while ago. Neither the regular or the CR could keep me from waking around 3 every morning. You can't make my body sleep more than a few hours at a time. I did all the crazy Ambien stuff, picked up the phone and called people, waxed my eyebrows one night (woke up in the morning thinking 'hey I need to wax my eyebrows today' looked in the mirror... tooooo late and there was no fixing them either), had all kinds of crazy conversations that I had zero recolection of the next day...

I gave up and let my body do what it wants. If I'm really wound up and it's late I'll take a couple Benadryl.

I work shift work and rotate weekly - days, swings then mids and I found the CVS brand of over-the-counter sleep aid works really well for me. Can fall asleep when my brain thinks I should be awake and not groggy when I get up, a lot better than most script aids.

I've always been leery of sleeping pills, leave me pretty groggy too. A study was released recently that now shows that people who use sleeping pills die early. Mixed answers on it, from a couple of years different to 5 times more likely.

Take your pick on which report you want to believe.

I may fall asleep after but I'm sure to be woken up by some butthole snoring and trying to steal the covers. :killingme

Excellent.

Can anyone recommend soething natural that can help me sleep. I dont take pills. Peace

The best way is also the most natural way which is a type of fasting.

When you are tired but restless and can not sleep then stay up all night and refuse to sleep so that your body gets the message.

In example - if you normally sleep at 10pm and normally wake up at 8am (the actual time is irrelevant) then stay up all night and then go on to work or whatever for the next day as if you had slept and then do not go to sleep until the next day at your regular sleep time 10pm.

I stay up all night about twice a year every year as it knocks me back into sleeping better.

To stay up all night is not really easy, so we need to get angry at our self in that our body is going to act so tired but when we try to sleep our body refuses to go to sleep, so staying up all night is a type of self punishment and it works because we can punish the body at anytime that it fails to perform correctly as in refusing to sleep.

Stay up and watch late night TV or watch DVD movies and drink hot caffeinated coffee, and even drive out in the middle of the night to buy coffee or go places like Walmart which stays open all night and do some shopping, because when we decide to stay up all night then all of a sudden our body wants to sleep and we have to fight it.

It will not hurt anyone to stay up for 24 hours, and it resets our inner sleep mechanism.

Another natural way is the do-not-eat fasting, as just do not eat all day long and then sleeping will come easy till breakfast time.

Pixie, you're hookin up with the wrong type of guys. If you're woken up again, it should be for another round of fun... :dye:

Seriously, I agree with GWGuy.
But if you don't have someone to have sex with, you could always go on the interwebs and find some dull, public, government docs laying out the budget plan to raise sales tax, gas tax, ____ tax, ... So, you'll either get "screwed" that way or fall asleep trying to read it. :killingme

I read an interesting article the other day about how needing 8 hours of straight sleep may be a myth, and unatural for some people. it was a really neat read.

anyway, if you have a smartphone, you can download a meditation app, they have several of them dedicated to sleep. It seems kind of silly, but it really can help, especially if the issue is getting your mind to "turn off" also, tv before bed gets your mind going, and can make it hard to shut off, so you shouldn't watch tv before bed if you are having trouble sleeping. A comfortable spot, a little guided meditation and it can def help.
