We have an 08 F--250 with 4wd and 4 full doors. Love it, nice and comfy. Hubby wishes he went with the 350. He isn't to pleased with the power in this one. His last truck was a dually with a 461

I just ordered me an '08 Crew Cab Sierra. I can't WAIT!
Our Brother-in_law just picked up the same truck.
BEAUTIFUL.. and it has varying firing cylinders (don't know the technical term).. but it shows you if you are running on 4,6 or 8 cylinders.

Diesel's get better mileage, and are a LOT more durable..
There's a reason you can't find an 18 wheeler with a gasoline engine.
That and the smell of a diesel in the morning.. it smells of VICTORY!!
ANd it's more environmentally friendly.. the refining process isn't as bad as gas, and it produces less byproducts that have to be disposed of.
I think I know what you are talking about. If you are going down the highway, it can shut off 4 of the 8 cylinders, which makes it better for fuel economy.
But, does the operator or engine make that adjustment?

It's called Fuel Management system and it only goes from 8 to 4, it doesn't have a 6 cylinder mode.
My old 2001 Chevy got 20mpg on the highway and 16 around town without FMS but it only had 265HP. The truck I have now has FMS and gets 14-15 around town and 19 on the highway with FMS but it has 325HP out of the same displacement engine.
I have to wonder if they put it on the old tuning set up my 2001 Chevy had if they could hit 20 in town and 25 on the highway?
Chevy does make a magnificent pick up truck though. Mine is damn nice.

I assumed it was like the caddy back in the 70's.. the failed 4-6-8 engine.

That is the precursor to this but I think the major difference was the old 4-6-8 had variable timing a vavles. The 8-4 Chevy has now is all done with the electonic ignition.
Funny thing is you can set the display to tell you when it is running on 4 or 8 but you cannot feel it. When coasting or cruising on flat level is drops to 4 but if you start up an incline or add gas it jumps to 8. You would think that idling at a trafffic light it would drop to 4 but it doesn't. I asked the service guy and he said it would idle too rough because the rpms are so low varying the firing order would not be as smooth as when under power. :shrug:
If oyu do not have the display set to mode you cannot tell if you are running on 4 or 8.
