GMC/Chevy seems like a good way to go.

Dodge seems to still be under the "poor reliability" gun.

Any thoughts on Toyota, Ford and Nissan large trucks?

Thank you all for helping me formulate some opinions.

Diesel's get better mileage, and are a LOT more durable..

There's a reason you can't find an 18 wheeler with a gasoline engine.

That and the smell of a diesel in the morning.. it smells of VICTORY!!

ANd it's more environmentally friendly.. the refining process isn't as bad as gas, and it produces less byproducts that have to be disposed of.

French Fries if you run WVO ............

I have an '03 Ford now with the very troublesome 6.0litre diesel. Mine has been relativley trouble free but is now starting to show the typical problems. And Ford is refusing to honor the warranty. Long story, I'm getting bent over, and the new Fords aren't any better than the 2003-2007's and are butt ugly to boot.

GM is offering 100,000mile warranty across the board on the gas engines.

I got the diesel due to the number of miles that I put on my vehicles every year.

If you haven't taken a Chevy or GMC truck for a test ride, you need to. They are dayum nice vehicles. The new Diesels are WHISPER quiet.

Check the truck boards (forums) to see who is having trouble with what. Not too much info on the Nissans, but seems that the quality of Toyota's have been falling lately. They are new to the big truck market, and aren't quite up to snuff yet with the big boys. For forums, TEN truck magazine handles all trucks, and is very busy and informative. Chevy Truck Sites

At the Auto show, the one thing that I noticed about the Toyota's were the bed bolts. The bolt heads stuck up above the bed "boards", so every time you slid something into the bed, the bolts would snag it. I didn't think that the interiors felt as roomy either. I got that same feeling in the Ford too. Same size trucks, just didn't feel as roomy as the GMC/Chevy.

I heart CLeValley
Go see Leroy Walker at Winegardner Chev. in Indian Head - tell him CLevalley sent you and he will give you an awesome deal. He is a good friend. Or go to Winegardner in brandywine the GMC dealer and let them know to call Leroy for you.

And Diesel fuel is 3.60 a gallon.....Killing me...I have a diesel and when I tow my trailer I get 10MPG...I like my diesel but why did fuel go up so much...I thought it was cheaper to refine....

Before my Ford started to go down hill, and I had Ford reprogram the computer due to recall, I was getting 18mpg on the highway when towing my 18ft flatbed and Jeep on (about 7500lb-8000lb combo), 20-22 mpg without the trailer. After Recall, couldn't get more than 15mpg. Average was 13.

According to the chevy/GMC forums, folks are getting close to the same results 18-20mpg) with the new duramax equipped vehicles. I like the idea of getting 20mpg, or close to it, regardless of how much crap I have in or behind my truck.

I have always had really bad luck with GM/Chevy's but there was an article about a 91 GMC that turned 1 million miles.....go figure....

Diesel's more expensive because of taxes, supply, and demand... most diesel fuel is used to transport consumer goods either via truck, ship, or train. That drives prices much more vigorously than the little guy at the pump.

If you're sick of paying, don't hesitate to visit your local Chinese buffet... all the fuel you could want in the brown dumpster out back. I just clocked 20,000 miles running on free fuel in my '83 Mercedes. I'm converting a second Mercedes and hope to be done next month.

I used this: www.greasecar.com for the first one. Will be using this: www.votechusa.com for the new one.

Diesel SHOULD be 1/2 to 1/3rd the cost of gas, the rest is ALL taxes..

Hey Ponytail,

Trust me, you will love it, the diesel is so quiet, I can sneak up on someone without them knowing it!!!! What package did you get?

I had to get the SLE1 cuz I needed the seating for 6. But I'm having them do two tone leather seating at the dealer. They'll be the charcoal leather seats with light grey center sections. I wanted tan, but the interiors on the SLE1's are all charcoal with the light grey ceiling, so tan seats would have looked stoopid.

I also opted not to get the Z71, hoping for a better ride. I got the rear locker, and skidplates though. Wanted the roof mounted DVD, but for $1800, I'll get something nicer down the road someday.

Got the electric rear sliding window, sunroof, dual zone AC, power seats, windows, back-up sensors, integrated trailer brake controller, etc.

But oh yeah...gotta have the Duramax/Allison. :yay:

Crew Cab, Long Bed 4x4...it's gonna be a monster. I can't wait.
