And they're so insistent and invested in being wrong! They spout nonsense that is the complete opposite of reality and fact with such vehemence and conviction. I rarely bother to engage them because it's like having an argument with a toddler about why his rain boots can't magically change from green to blue.
Years ago, I had a somewhat liberal co-worker - and friend - mention to me about a lot of things Bush did, as governor of Texas. Did a deep dive on the Internet. Couldn't prove him wrong. I've come to agree, while I think he was an ok President, we could have done better.
I have since made every effort to make sure I understand - and am exposed to - both sides of a story.
My niece - whom I've actually put on silence, on Facebook - had a long thread after one of her posts decrying the idea of allowing boys who identify as girls to be forbidden to enter the girl's bathroom, loudly proclaiming "what, do they think they're going to molest the girls in there?".
She wasn't even REMOTELY aware of news stories saying EXACTLY THAT, and that included some of my cousins on the thread WHO LIVE IN LOUDOUN COUNTY where one of the more egregious cases took place.
These are otherwise intelligent people who have willfully closed their minds from anything disputing their point of view. I realize some people really ARE tards - like the nitwit who said that the full video of Trump and the "fine people" was edited - they just can't admit they were wrong, even when there's more than enough evidence, and even when their much praised sources like the WaPo and NYT AGREE.
Sometimes I refer them to THIS - you remember her, right? Advised Gore, on his campaign - not at least, initially, friendly to conservatives.
