maybe this mistake will make her reevaluate her journalistic values.
Attkisson was too kind to Kwon.
Kwong should be fired, but she probably won't be.
She got suckered from what I read, Trump left Mar-a-lago in an unmarked generic vehicle while a motorcade headed to the golf course, easy mistake (assumption) to make. Her biggest mistake was getting snarky on twitter, maybe this mistake will make her reevaluate her journalistic values. The whole trip was well planned and executed, I'm sure every journalists was fooled if they were covering Trump in Mar-a-lago.
Kwong was fired by Newsweek.True. Getting fooled is one thing - POTUS has to do that for safety reasons.
Kwong's tweet notwithstanding, I agree with Sheryl that she could have reported the story differently. I don't think some of these "journalists" will ever do that. They are too busy interjecting their own opinions and view into the stories they write.
It turns out Newsweek was not amused. The reporter, Jessica Kwong, has been fired. She tells her side of the story:
The root of the problem, of course, is that Newsweek, like pretty much all news outlets, is interested in bringing down President Trump, not in reporting the news. This is why we see such mistakes in the press, over and over, and always in the same direction.Kwong told the Washington Examiner that she was assigned to write a story about what the president was doing on Thanksgiving a week in advance and filed it to her editors on Wednesday. Then, she explained that she sent a message to the editor on duty with the president’s latest actions and the editor published the piece. That editor decided to have a reporter write a new story on Trump’s surprise trip to Afghanistan, and neglected to update Kwong’s original piece in a timely manner.
Her defense is that her story wasn't updated by her editor in a timely manner. Except for this:Kwong was fired by Newsweek.
So Kwong's defense was that her story wasn't updated by her editor. Maybe so, but clearly something else took place.

UPDATED: Newsweek fires reporter who wrote inaccurate story on Trump's Thanksgiving Day plans - Washington Examiner
The Newsweek reporter who wrote an inaccurate story about President Trump's Thanksgiving Day plans has been fired. The outlet's original story claimed the president only planned on tweeting and golfing during his holiday break, neglecting to mention his trip to Afghanistan.Newsweek’s Jessica...www.washingtonexaminer.com
--- End of line (MCP)
So, she decided to write a snarky-a**ed story a week ahead of time, assuming that the POTUS would be golfing. That's even worse than "mis-reporting" if you ask me. She then has the nerve to want to correct her tweet and call it "an honest mistake"! I think not, Jessica.Kwong told the Washington Examiner that she was assigned to write a story about what the president was doing on Thanksgiving a week in advance and filed it to her editors on Wednesday.
It won't. I don't know jack about Jessica Kwong, she may be a very nice person for all I know. But she's in the belly of the beast and certainly believes hating on Trump is her journalistic value. She's not ashamed, just pissed that Trump wasn't really out golfing and picking up hookers. These people - "journalists" - are all clumped together in a hive, reaffirming each other and assuring each other than Trump is Satan and must be stopped at all cost.
So even if Ms. Kwong (or any young J-school grad) has a conscience and truly wants to do honest journalism, that will get worn away under the relentless onslaught of partisan politics in their environment.
Jessica Kwong was fired by Newsweek.
