MUSKEGON COUNTY, MI – They left for what they thought would be an easy float down Muskegon River Tuesday afternoon – but ended up spending the night on the river bank, scared and yelling for help.

The trio of young women were rescued 20 hours later after a fisherman eventually heard their cries, said Muskegon Township Deputy Fire Chief Bob Grabinski.

"They were informed by somebody at the bridge that the river goes in a circle and if they put in there they would come back to their car," he said. "Not knowing anything, they set off on their little adventure."

I'ma be honest, the first time I set out in a kayak I thought you just threw the boat in the water and started paddling around. The kayak rental dude set me straight.

I find it interesting that not one of them had a phone with them. No selfies? No Facebook Live? Can you imagine the live posts from a harrowing experience like this?

maybe you have never been tubing, but you are basically swimming and floating on a tube. unless you have a drybag your phone is likely to get wet.....

Since when has that ever stopped anyone?

And for the record.... I was a lifeguard, an open water scuba instructor, a sailor, whitewater rafter, born and raised in the water. Yes, I've been tubing. You never heard of a ziplock? Why do you always look for the most misinformed negative comment you can make?

It depends on where you are. Not too many paddlers, especially beginners, are good enough to fight upstream or strong currents. Checking the tide is also a good idea.

bwhahahaha

there was nothing negative or misinformed about my comment. It spoke directly to the reason these three girls most likely did not have their phones with them. if they didn't realize the river didn't go in a circle its a pretty sure bet they were not prepared enough to bring even a ziplock
