Turbok9, how long have you been doing bitework?

Been a training decoy since 1996 really... about 20 years if you count doing it on my own occasionally with no real guidance, LOL. I handled dogs for some time prior to that, but didn't do any 'helper' or 'decoy' work back then. From 2001 to 2007 I helped out with LEO dogs in FL.

I guess I've been handling bite dogs since 1991 if you count early security work with half-ass trained dogs:killingme most security companies have no clue what they really need, they buy LEO trained dogs when what they really need is protection training, most cases they can't legally apprehend a fleeing subject w/ a dog, they can however use dogs to protect the officers and innocents and search buildings and grounds. Got serious about it in 96, earned my first title in 1998. From 2002 to 2008 I had my own little side business, but when I moved here I didn't see much of a market for protection dogs because the county codes tend to consider dogs with any bite training 'dangerous dogs' which is really really naive and stupid. All dogs bite people, trained dogs know WHEN to bite people, and more importantly, when not. That last part is a little pet peeve of mine, sorry...

Why, you wanna train up a dog? Hee hee.

I was just curious, you dont find too many people that do the work. I used to train dogs as well but slowly goot out of it. I donated all my gear to the Sheriffs dept a couple of years ago. Might get back into it one day, I certainly miss it enough.

It gets in your blood doesn't it? The desire to compete as a handler waxes and wanes with the dogs I have, mostly with that 'team' feeling, but the desire to go out and get bruised up just never leaves...

You ever get serious about it again let me know. I'd love to put together a club or start up a small non-profit to provide trained dogs to domestic abuse victims and whatnot.

Animal Poor!
We could always pull a 'think quick' on him...

Drag him over to oh, the Starbucks or Dunkin' Donuts in Lusby. As you are walking across the parking lot I'll have a sleeve hidden in one of the garbage cans. You pull it out, hand it to him, and say "think quick". As he looks puzzled, you drop to the ground screaming like you've been stabbed or something, and whip out your camera, and I'll jump out of hiding with my dog yelling "Get that SOB!! ATTACK!!". LOL.

Of course, it would be a lot easier on him if he'd just cave and offer to work Harley ON leash... 80 lbs at 35 MPH across a parking lot is a lot of force hitting your chest. :lmao:

:roflmao:

Wow that would be neat...

Yup it would!! I don't know the first thing about starting a NP though, and I can't very well build a kennel in my 1/4 acre yard... Too crowded already :)

I need people who know about the non-doggy end of things!

Yay and now it's getting warmer too. More fun when you aren't freezing your ditties off.

Name the time :)
