Turtle Eggs

FancyBelle

I'm 2 old 2 die young!
While blowing leaves yesterday, I seemed to have uncovered a pile of turtle eggs. They were under a bunch of mulch. I thought their eggs only needed about 60 days and they were born in the spring? Anybody know anything about turtle eggs? I think it's just a box turtle.

I always find empty soft shell eggs in my mulch pile, I thought they were snakes?

Buddy of mine has turtle nests in his yard. He finds a number of baby turtles every year.

I have a number of turtles that wander thru, but they live in the woods and I've never seen any nests or hatchlings on the property.

Cover them back up...Box turtles, while not endangered, are threatened due to collectors and loss of habitat.
Turtles are dirt specific, and come back to the dirt they were born in to mate, and lay more eggs...kinda like salmon..
You take them away, even as eggs, and let them go elsewhere, they will not reproduce and will keep "looking" for their dirt.
No kidding!!

If you need more help or whatever, PM me..
But leave them alone ......and wait and "see" what will happen! Get out the camera!!!

Here is a good site with more info and great photos...
Box Turtles

Just keep in mind, it is illegal in Maryland to take these eggs in and hatch them and /or raise them as pets.

Thanks for looking out for these eggs!! :howdy:
