Does anyone know if there is a small tester that you can screw onto a cable TV outlet that tells you if you have a signal?

I only have 1 TV and dont want to drag it around my house to see which jacks work.

Ah figured it would be something small and cheap like the ones for the electrical outlets and phone outlets.

Yes, it's called a 13" tv.

I hate when I have that problem. It really is a pain to carry anything bigger than a 19" tv just to test it. Do you have a longer cable? Or is it way too far away?

I hate to say this but.....

Buy a really long cable and haul it around leaving the one end hooked to the TV. A 100' cable should take care of most outlets.

Out of curiousity (? dang spell check screwed me) why are you trying to figure out which cable jacks work with only one tv?

Try this.

I dunno if this will work or not. I assume you have cable internet. Unplug all the Computer connections from the Modem. See if the liitle connection light stays lite up. If it does, unplug the modem and haul that around and check your other outlets with the modem.

I 'think' the bottom light on my modem shows I have good connectivity. But I am not home at the moment so can't check that out for you.

I don't know if it will even show that you have good connection without the other stuff connected.

Just an idea.

Well this quest started because I want to put an LCD on a wall in one room and I found a mess of cable wires under the house. I wanted to check the ones under the house without dragging a tv and power cord down there.

If it's not hooked up to anything, there will be no current.
Multitester won't work. Current doesn't flow thru TV cable (at least not intentionally) :lmao:

He could crawl under where the cluster of cables are and see which are conncted.

That sounds like a good idea. :yay:

On the Right Side.
Running coaxal cable is very easy, Put the TV where you want it, if the cable that is there has no signal, running one is cheap and easy.

Maybe not current, but a multitester will show if there is a signal running through the cable. Haven't you ever touched the center wire of two coax cables together and seen the little spark? That will register on a multi-tester.
