Beirut, Lebanon (AHN) - A Canadian UN peacekeeper killed in an Israeli air strike Tuesday complained just days before that tragic incident that his position was being used as cover by Hezbollah terrorists attacking Israel.

In an interview on CBC Radio in Toronto, Major General Lewis MacKenzie (ret.) said he had been privy to e-mails received from the soldier over the past week.

MacKenzie, who happened to know the deceased personally, said in one such correspondence the soldier "described the fact that he was taking within...three meters of his position 'for tactical necessity - not being targeted.'"

The general explained that is veiled military speech "telling us [that] Hezbollah fighters were all over his position and the IDF were targeting them."

He said using UN personnel as human shields is "a favorite trick by people who don't have representation in the UN," knowing they will suffer no direct consequences for the violation.

In most cases the UN cant wait to pull their people out when they come under fire.

It almost appears in this case they were left in this place deliberately, either to shield Hezballah or to get hit and cause an incident.

Why should the UN need an observer post in an area that has already come under attack? The purpose of observation here is to watch for incursions and violations of borders or violations of UN accords. These violations had already occurred and were occurring. Why were they left there?

I've seen a few different places that these UN idiots were called "peace keepers." Were they "peace keepers" or "observers?" Just curious.

A segment of Fox News was dedicated to this very point just a few minutes ago.

Seems that Hezbollah has somewhat of a history of "cowing and intimidating" UN Peacekeeping forces to sit still and say nothing. Could they have been between the proverbial "rock and a hard place"?

I would say that if they were unarmed they could be nothing but observers and they should have gotten out of there once the terrorists started using them as shields.
