This is like a sci-fi movie that could come true.

ATLANTA, Georgia (CNN) -- Federal health authorities are looking for people who may have been exposed aboard a plane to someone infected with a drug-resistant form of tuberculosis known as XDR-TB.

That's impossible! According to Hessian, all drug-resistant TB is spread by illegal immigrants!

If this was true, that means kicking the illegals out won't prevent the spread of TB. Maybe we should ban all international travel? Why stop there? No interstate travel! Heck, no travelling outside your county! Don't leave home! Stay in bed! :jameo:

This will put a damper on my vacation next week. I guess I can always look at photos from previous vacations. :ohwell:

Great, let's add more reasons to why I am afraid of flying. I'm not freaky about germs BUT I can't stand knowing I am breathing OPA (other people's air) for hours on end. :lmao:

This whole thing kind of bothers me. The guy was told he had TB and told not to fly by doctors. He gets on a plane and him and his wife fly oversease anyways. Then once overseas was told he has an aggressive strain of TB that was medically resistant. He was instructed to put himself into isolation in a hospital in Rome. Again he was told not to get on a plane. He ignores that request and feels the hospitals arn't the best in Rome so he and his wife take two more flights to Canada. Then drives down to GA from there. All for a wedding and honeymoon that just COULDN'T wait? Give me a break. He's on my inconsiderate idiot of the week list. :cussing:

Gotta agree w/you on this dems-What made him feel he had to "sneak" back into the US via Canada? This is a selfish, self-centered man who put many others at risk!

I agree. He was told NOT to fly by the doctors when he was first diagnosed with TB but he did it anyways and went overseas. Then AGAIN had to be told when they realized it was an aggressive strain that was medically resistant, he again flew on a plane, not once but twice. He ignored the doctors request every chance he could and endangered others in the process all so he could get married and have the honeymoon as planned. Completely, self-centered and inconsiderate.

I heard on WTOP this morning, he said he was told by a doctor it was not a good idea to fly, but said the doctor didn't specifically tell him NOT to fly. What a loser. I think he should be charged with attempted murder and if anyone does catch this and dies, then he should be charged with murder, he knew he was sick and very contagious and the desease is extremely hard to treat and could be fatal. Your are right but inconsiderate is an understatement. :cussing:

 I heard it on the tv and radio this morning. Really, what doctor would say- you're okay to fly, you only have TB. Go ahead and take a LONG flight overseas it's just TB. I think the guy is FOS if he says the doctors said it was okay to fly to begin with. :liar: :bs: If he's THAT inconsiderate and selfcentered to fly when it was made clear the second time, I wouldn't put it past him to make up some bs story that the doctors said it was okay to fly with TB overseas. "The man had been told by health officials in early May that he had a form of TB that was resistant to first-line antibiotics and was advised not to travel to Europe. "He was told traveling is against medical advice," said Dr. Steven Katkowsky, director of the Fulton County Department of Health & Wellness.

Health officials said they don't know how the Georgia man was infected.

A CDC official reached the man by phone in Rome and told him not to take commercial flights, but he flew back to North America anyway. "He was told in no uncertain terms not to take a flight back," Cetron said."

Why are you surprised. We see on a daily basis people who think boundaries and rules do not apply to them. I'm not the least bit surprised to hear this story.

Okay, meanwhile, the people he may have infected could be infecting others? Why only 2 rows, I think everyone should be checked, I'm sure he didn't stay in his seat during the flights. Doesn't make sense to me.

Me neither. Its kind of like when the first guy got aids (the french guy) and he was still going around spreading it, not caring what people told him. Heck all it takes is one of my bosses flying oversease on the same plane, me getting it, me going to a long forum gathering and it's down in southern maryland. It is contageous and antibiotic resistant therefor CDC is involved and telling the man not to fly and he does it anyways, just like the azzhat that had aids. :jameo: :jameo: First time this serious since 1963 someone has to be in government ordered (not suggested) quarnteen. This could be pretty serious. What an azz.

Reminds me of that movie with Dustin Hoffman I think. One scens is where this guy is in a movie theatre and he coughs and everyone gets sick. It's just freaky because you just don't know how far this can go.

This is from the Yahoo article on the story:

"I'm a very well-educated, successful, intelligent person," he told the paper. "This is insane to me that I have an armed guard outside my door when I've cooperated with everything other than the whole solitary-confinement-in-Italy thing."

Oh yeah, other than that..... wtf!?

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070530/ap_on_he_me/tuberculosis_infection

He was ordered to stay in Italy due to the risk and he ignored them. If he is sooo intelligent, wouldn't he know how nasty TB is? He sounds like he didn't think it was that big of a deal.

Oh, and to the poster that asked.... they are only trying to find people within a few rows because that is all who could be infected. It is spread airborne by liquid droplets from the lung, etc. I'm assuming it doesn't become infectious for a few days, so that is why there isn't a widespread panic. The people on the plane wouldn't pass it to others as soon as they got off, etc.

On the news they said two rows in front, two rows in back and the crew. If I were on the flight with this guy, I'd get tested no matter where I was sitting. I'd rather be safe than sorry.
