Unbelievable is right. They weren't court-martialed for TAKING the trucks - they were court-martialed for not RETURNING the trucks or even bothering to report it to their superior.

What's it 2 U
I read this article this morning and thought the same thing. I would think instead of 6 months in jail the soliders would have gotten at least a pat on the back. I mean they were OUR vehicles. So, I guess instead of stripping them for parts they needed, they should have left them there for the insurgents and Al Quada to get them, fix them up and come after our tropps with our own equipment. Yeah right. :duh: :duh:

I had to read it several times looking for what they did wrong. Still haven't found it.

What a bunch of idiots and I'm not talking about the ones who took the trucks. I'm talking about the US Army for prosecuting these guys that were trying to get into the fight. It really pisses me off when they try to make war "by the rules." War is to kill the enemy by whatever means possible. If it takes canibalizing one truck to make another work... Whatever it takes.

I agree (I think) with you guys. I have no problem with what they did. One group abandoned the trucks to be stolen by the enemy, and another group of our guys recovered them and canabalized them to repair their own trucks to complete their mission. Sounds like a proper course of action to me.

I guess you didn't read this:
"Instead of taking the trucks back to their rightful owners, the first thing was erasing the identity marks and dumping them off at bases," Wicker said. "They destroyed it. They did the enemy's job. ... Those trucks could be used for other units."

I have no problem with them using the trucks or stripping them for parts to get the job done, but why didn't they report that they did it and return the trucks to the proper authority? I'm sure the chain of command would have been all for using the trucks to get the job done...if they knew about it.

One thing that makes me wonder is "abandoned in Kuwait". My guess is that they were "abandoned" at the military staging area, not out in the middle of nowhere.
