I'm seeing Dr. Tilley in Leonardtown. He informed me that it's his policy to wait until 28-30 weeks.

It's terrible to say because he's an excellent doctor and I've been very happy with him otherwise, but I'm half tempted to go elsewhere for a single visit so that I can find out sooner!

Congrats to you! How far along are you? I am 17 weeks, and was Tilley told me they'd give me a sono at 27 weeks. When I was expecting with my daughter (2..5 years old now), I also went to Tilley and was told the same thing - but I complained that I did not want to wait that long and I did not want to have it done in his office. That machine is ancient and the pics are so grainy. So, he gave me a referal and I went to Patuxent Imaging - at 21 weeks. Pressure him, he'll get a little shi*ty, but you'll get what you want. Or talk to CNM Carol Dehaven - she is a lot kinder.

Tilley does have a bedside manner that leaves a lot to be desired, but word is that he is the best. So, I ignored some comments from him and was so happy I stuck it out with him. In the end, I needed an ECS and that is where he really thrives. He becomes a different person once you hit L&D, and once you have the baby - you couldn't ask for a nicer guy.

*Funny tidbit, he doesn't give sono's until 27-28 weeks, but his office offers a 'sneak peak' at 20 weeks for $50.00* Hmmm....

Check with local community colleges. They're always looking for practice, and can (if the baby cooperates) tell you the sex of the child.

I called the Care Net Pregnancy center - they had a flier stating that they give free sono's b/c techs are learning. It took them 2 weeks to return my call and at that point they said it was too late. They do not do the ultrasounds after 15 weeks (they prefer 12 weeks and less).

Some malls also have a pay for service sonogram machines.

Who in the hell informed you that he was the best? :yikes:

My best friend, she was nursing supervisor. She spoke with nurses from the maternity ward and they commented that he was the best. Plus, she had some first eye witness accounts to a couple of the other doctors and had many reservations.

We only have a few OB/GYNs in the county - not a lot to choose from.

Well, I can tell you from personal experience, the man is an idiot. I have 3 friends that have dropped him as a doctor in the past few years. They all agree with me. I can also tell you that I spend a great deal of my time in the maternity ward and none of the nurses there will ever say that he is the best.

I see you have a strong opinion about him. Believe me, it was a struggle to stay with him the first time and to decide to return. But, I'm happy with my decision. And I also have heard rumors about the other doctors and wasn't willing to risk it. Remember, mine ended in c-section and that is the area of expertise I am referring to.
Further, my friend worked for SMH 11 years, pretty sure she talked to some people and experienced some interactions - so stating that 'none of the nurses there will ever say that he is the best' is calling her a liar and stating that you know by fact. Pretty bold.

I retract my statement. None of the nurses that I have dealt with would say that he's the best OB doc! Better?

Much.

Trust me, I struggled with the decision to stick with him when I had an ordeal at the start of this pregnancy. I called him b/c I spotted for a couple of weeks and he told me I was probably miscarrying and there was nothing they could do about it.

Not a great bedside manner - I was already upset but became devasted after that remark. Thankfully all is well now. I had made an appointment with another doctor b/c I wasn't sure I wanted to handle his mannerisms, but in the end if it comes down to me needing surgery again - I would want him to do it.

At what week did you have the ultrasound to find out the sex of your baby?
Just wondering
With my son it was 20 weeks but with my daughter I found out when I was 8 months. I had a great doctor who did somongrams right in his office but I think with girls its harder to tell and he really wanted to make sure. He was right with both of mine. Actually when he didn't tell me at 20 weeks I was pretty sure it was going to be a girl. I now have a feisty red haired 9 year old. lol
