Unofficial History of the Aluminum Christmas Tree

Do they still make these trees? I bet you can find one at WalMart or maybe an antique store. My parents had one for a few years. There were only four colors from the revolving light. Kind of strange.

Dude, who are you? I read a couple of your threads, like the toilet paper thing and getting sick at the state fair and this one. You are funny. :killingme

I'm just a guy who likes to write. My site is mostly about Boomer stuff. Check out the About section, About « Boomer Twilight. I grew up in PG County. There's also a post about Marlow Heights. Look around at the site and check out the other posts and videos. I'm not selling anything :nomoney:, I just like to write. Glad you are enjoying it.

So, where can I get one of these trees? I tried to make one out of saran wrap, but my neighbor was wearing all the stuff as a naughty suit for her husband. He wasn't interested, because she weighs 800 pounds and forgot to flour herself.

I know that girl. I haven't seen one of those trees since I was a kid. I bet they are still around somewhere, though.

My parents had one, but eventually the wheel stopped turning and it just stayed on red. My father turned it manually for one season, and let it stay on a color for awhile then to another color, until he got tired of it. Then they bought a green artificial tree. I prefer a real tree, but we ended up going with an artificial tree because it was such a pain going out every year for a real tree. hate to be a Bah Humbug guy, but that's what we do. :ohwell:

Yes, they still make those silver aluminum Christmas trees, with the changing color wheel, but they aren't cheap. I still have a circa 1960s original, with a working color wheel.

Do you still use yours? Or do you have a green tree?

No, my wife won't let me put it up. Well, at least not in the favored location, to use as the, "official", family Christmas tree. I suppose she'd consider permitting me to put it up somewhere out of the way, as sort of an embarrassment to my retro indulgences.

Man, those trees are expensive! I think I'll buy some aluminum foil and cut it up into strips and make my own.

Well, there's always eBay, lots of them there. Just wait until after Christmas to snag one at a reasonable price.

Keep the memories alive,
