Unreliable bus

Do you have the option of speaking directly to the bus driver?

It's a substitute. Apparently it was a substitute the last time this happened as well. So the regular driver - as erratic as his times are, he always shows up in time to get them to school before first bell - isn't the problem.

I've been in contact with the Superintendent of Schools. I'm pretty sure I detected actual concern with my problem from them. They're on it.

So for the second time in a week, my kids' bus doesn't show up.

Last time the bus showed up at 9:10 - that's 10 minutes after school starts. Today, as I write this, they just told me "the bus is on the way".

This bus totally sucks to begin with. It usually shows up anywhere between 8:20 and 8:45 (ya never know when exactly), and you never know which bus number will be stopping by. And now it's not showing up until my kids are supposed to be at their desks getting their educations.

So I called up department of Trasportation, and they tell me "the bus is on the way!" - in a tone that says I'm supposed to be happy about this. I tell them I registered a complaint last week and it's happened AGAIN.

"Well it's a substitute driver again today"
"That's not my problem. I want to know what's going to be done about this"
"Your concerned is being entered into the system".

I would rather something be done than have a complaint logged into the system, which I assume is very much like filing my complaint in the 'circular file'.

Anyone else have this problem? Is there anything I can do? I told the person on the phone that if this happens again, I'm coming down there in person, and it's going to be a most unpleasant visit. I would rather have something happen before I go make a scene.

Your kid must go to AES. I just left there a little bit ago and heard that their was still a bus out there with kids that wasn't to school yet. Their isn't much you can do. They do not have enough buses or drivers. I and many others have made numerous complaints and it's done nothing.

Well, I've been in touch with the school. They said usually don't get involved with the busses, and the Principal is out until Wednesday, but the person I talked to said that the principal might get involved because students are actually being adversely affected.

They also gave me a number so I could go over the heads of the people I talked to this morning. Which I fully intend to do.

Further bulletins as events warrent.

It must not be Appeal because I spoke with their principal today. I would suggest calling the Appeal Principal and you may get further with her.

Call the contractor for the bus...he is responsible for his buses. He gets paid to provide the service to the county.

Patuxent Elementary.

I've been in contact with the superintendant. I'm waiting to hear what's going down.

I thought the kids were out there late....

Any update Toxick or Lusby Mom?

IMHO you should not have to ask neighbors for a ride or feel like you need to drive you children yourself. You also shouldn't have to worry about whether the regular driver decided to show up. The bus company should have a very well rehearsed contingency plan. Is there some public meeting you could voice your concern at? PTA or something? I agree with writing letters, etc. Keep us posted, and keep your cool as you go through this, you will get further. Best wishes.

:knockonwood: Sounds like we are lucky, we live in the neighborhood and have had :knockonwoodagain: zero bus issues.
:yeahthat: Sounds like some of the contractors are far better than others. The only thing I have a problem with is one bus driver who thinks it's okay to do 50 on catalina, and the cops who refuse to even point their radar at a school bus.

I didn't make it over to Appeal today, I was going to check out what is going on and what is being done.

Toxick did you hear anything?

The superintendant got in touch with the DOT who then called me back. The man I talked to personally guaranteed that it would not happen again.

This morning we had a new bus driver.

I'm not sure if it was the original driver or a new sub, but the sub who screwed us over twice is gone.

According to Mrs. Toxick, the new driver blew past our stop this morning. But he turned around right away and got the kids. Honest mistake - he's learning the route, so I'm not too pressed about that. He managed to get our kids to school before the first bell, so that's good enough for me.

But time will tell how this works.

Maybe the Treasurer of CRE [who is also on the executive board at Patuxent or Appeal] will take this question up to the PTA.

I'll ask her about it next time I speak with her...

It looks like he got the problem fixed. Please don't un-fix it for him. TIA

Only reason I offered to do a dam thing was:
