Thank you for posting. I have a friend there at Walter Reed.
If you've never been there, it is awe-inspiring.
So many broken young people... so many of them hurt very badly.
... it is very humbling to go there.

Thank you for this important post.

O positive here.

Persons with O Positive Type Blood can recieve the following types of blood:
O Positive
O Negative

O Positive type blood can be safely given to persons with blood types:
O Positive
A Positive
B Positive
AB Positive

So is that only for blood or would plasma be applicable as well?

I think it's all the same for donating. You get plasma and platelets from the blood itself.

I'm O+ (we can give to anyone) and would consider donating...anybody doing a carpool of sorts?

The rules are completely different for plasma.

are you sure about the O negative being able to receive O positive, I am O negative and had to receive shots before my kids births just in case my kids RH factors were positive. I am not an expert on this maybe as long as you have the shot along with the transfusion you will be fine???? not sure

I think this is right:
If you're RH negative and your baby is RH positive, and if your baby's blood gets into your blood stream during birth, your blood will produce antibodies to kill the RH positive blood cells. Then if you get pregnant AGAIN, your body will be prepared to kill RH positive cells, and your body may attack your baby's blood cells, now seeing them as a foreign invader. This is very dangerous for the baby if not treated during the second pregnancy.

I'm taking a class right now and we're covering this... but I only have a "B" in the class, so don't quote me. :lmao:
