Biden said he would keep America's 'commitment' to Taiwan if it faced a Ukraine situation

President Biden stated that the U.S. will send the military to defend Taiwan if the People's Republic of China were to invade the island nation.

"Very quickly, you didn't want to get involved in the Ukraine conflict militarily for obvious reasons. Are you willing to get involved militarily to defend Taiwan if it comes to that?" a reporter asked the president during a news conference in Japan.

"Yes," Biden replied.

"You are?" the reporter pressed.

"That's the commitment we made," the president said.

Hahahahahaha. We, meaning our military, are so woke, know more about diversity, inclusion, and equity, than actual hands on getting dirty, cold and wet, light discipline bivouacking, field training in military tactics and maneuvers, China would walk over us in a day's time. China could easily amass over 1,000,000 or more troops, (having over 2,000,000 active duty troops), at their coast, only 50 miles from Taiwan, and use their Navy consisting of over 132 vessels. In addition of us being spread so thin over the globe. Even our Navy are sitting ducks in the water because we are so behind in defensive capabilities against China's newest missiles. Maybe the Air Force could possibly do something, but doubtful, unless they'd be targeting China proper itself, which would definitely be the precursor to the start of a real WW3. Actually, anything we do to "defend" Taiwan, would be the precursor to the start of a real WW3. There are times where we, the US, should leave well enough alone and stay out of the affairs of other countries, especially when one is tied so intricately to a super power rivaling that of the US.

Speaking of freedom of speech and its consequences on another thread, Biden's words, won't come back to affect him, but instead the whole of the Nation.

Any start of WW3 will be blamed on Trump by those who survive.

At this point Biden will do anything to distract from his disaster "presidency". If it means full all out world war, so be it. It's not like he or anyone in his family or in his donors' families will be in danger.

Problem will be he will start a war but his people won't be able to backtrack from it.

Newt actually said - essentially - "hate to admit it, but he's right". Evidently according to our agreements with China, they cannot take hostile action against Taiwan as per our agreement with the One China recognition. If they intervene, they break the agreement.

We evidently have a rather wishy washy agreement that says, yeah, there's one China, we do not recognize it as independent BUT we don't recognize your sovereignty EITHER. Leave it be, and we're all happy.

I don't see what China has to gain by invading Taiwan.

I would say "almost right" - The Taiwan Relations Act makes it a joint decision by the President and Congress
IMPLEMENTATION OF UNITED STATES POLICY WITH REGARD TO TAIWAN
SEC. 3. (a) In furtherance of the policy set forth in section 2 of this Act, the United States will make available to Taiwan such defense articles and defense services in such quantity as may be necessary to enable Taiwan to maintain a sufficient self-defense capability.
(b) The President and the Congress shall determine the nature and quantity of such defense articles and services based solely upon their judgment of the needs of Taiwan, in accordance with procedures established by law. Such determination of Taiwan's defense needs shall include review by United States military authorities in connection with recommendations to the President and the Congress.
(c) The President is directed to inform the Congress promptly of any threat to the security or the social or economic system of the people on Taiwan and any danger to the interests of the United States arising therefrom. The President and the Congress shall determine, in accordance with constitutional processes, appropriate action by the United States in response to any such danger.
