USB ports aren't working...

I'm running windows 10 on an HP laptop and none of my USB ports work. They didn't work before I updated from windows 8.1 and I was hoping that upgrading to windows 10 would solve the problem. Here is what I've tried so far.

I've gone in to device manager and selected each USB port and all say "device is working properly"
I've tried updating the drivers but it says I'm running the most up to date drivers.
I have also disabled each port then re-enabled them.
I've even uninstalled the USB ports and re-installed all of them

I'm at a loss.

Any help anyone can provide would be welcome and appreciated.

Laptops are harder to take apart so I'm not responsible for the advice I can give you.
I think you have to take the battery out of the motherboard (if it has one), wait a few minutes and turn it back on. If the laptop uses the built in battery to keep the laptop charged, you are out of luck except to let the laptop battery go dead and some lipo batteries won't charge up if you let them go to a negative state so I advise against this.
Sometimes you have to reset the board that way and it isn't always easy to get it working again. If the coin cell battery doesn't have a charge, you would have to buy a new coin cell battery.

Sometimes software can mess up the settings so my advice is to reset everything back to the factory conditions before you do this.

The easiest way is to RMA the device and take it back on warranty and get some other brand.
Or you visit the Geek Squad for them to tell you that you need a new motherboard or USB ports.

If you haven't had an experience taking a laptop or computer apart, I would advise you against it.
You also don't want the computer to be plugged in while you do this and you might want to remove the batteries before you do this.
Do not touch the exposed chips or wires and I would sit at a table away from a carpet. Usually you have to ground yourself before touching components and don't touch the chips or wires because static electricity can damage a computer.
You need to have some experience and have done this before or call the Geek Squad because a lot of people have problems putting their laptops back together for some reason.

Again, I am not responsible for what you do with this laptop or the consequences.

Instructions unclear, electrocuted my cat, I feel Chuckt is responsible.

how are you uninstalling, reinstalling drivers? just right clicking, uninstall, reinstall inst necessarily reinstalling it properly. right clicking and updating is not the best way either. someone mentioned draining the battery, that is simple on newer age laptops. remove battery, open laptop and hold power button down for 15 seconds. any remaining power will be flushed.

id recommend going out to manufacture site, downloading proper drivers, uninstall through device manager, when reinstalling i would select have driver or disk and point to appropriate files. if its a .exe only i would uninstall drivers, then just run the .exe as admin and see if it helps.
