USDA makes nation's largest beef recall

It's certainly nothing new. I worked at a slaughter house...very common.

I'm curious how one is supposed to move a downed cow, if not with a fork lift.

The down cattle shouldn't even go to slaughter. I don't necessarily have a problem with downed cattle on the farm being lifted with machinery...it's the way it has to be done. But downed cattle should not be sent to slaughter.

Good beef plants don't use old worn out dairy cattle. :yay:

:eyebrow: So, what are we supposed to do with them?

That's because dairy farmers use and abuse the cows until they are so drained they can barely move. Once they are worthless to them, they ship them off to one of these cheapo meat packing companies that our schools and fast food restaurants buy from because they are so cheap.

That's not exactly true. Although, dairy cattle don't have the best life possible. Most retired dairy cows are only ~6 yrs old when sent to slaughter. Cows can live to be easily 3 times that. It's hard on a cow to be constantly pregnant and milking (10 mos. out of the year). Most retired dairy cows should easily be able to walk onto a livestock trailer. If they're that badly off when they're "retired," then the farm did something wrong.

Agreed, there are many things that are just as, if not more, disgusting and cruel but you're confused as to why this too would make someone disgusted and/or upset??
No, just confused why you would focus on this. If I got upset over every cruelty perpetrated by man
I'd have jumped off the Solomon's bridge by now. I've seen much worse treatment of animals than is shown on that video.

I don't care what they do with them, I'm just saying, good beef companies don't use dairy cattle as beef :yay:

So glad I've raised my kid vegetarian!

There is a reason why the Old Testament forbid eating meat that was "unclean". I didn't stop eating meat out of some touchy-feely-new agey-crap, but because I realized that most of what in our food supply is downright disgusting. If my survival depended on killing a wild animal for food I'd do it, but the stuff we have in the supermarket is not the same meat our ancestors ate.

I like meat too much to be a vegetarian, but I would like to be able to raise my own food once I get a bigger place. That way I can control how it was raised. Plus, it tastes much better.

I'm too cheap to buy free range LOL. Better you raise your own. I'd like to someday keep chickens for eggs, but I'm too squemish to slaughter an animal.

Well don't be confused, I guess everyone is affected differently by different situations. I'm not trying to down playing other terrible things that are going on in the world, the states or southern maryland for that matter.

Please don't jump of the Solomon's bridge though, that would start a whole new thread for us to post how upset we are
