Closest I have seen to this is a place in Frederick where verified low income people can come in and buy scratch/dent/used/recycled/discontinued/leftover building materials. They were open to the general public on a few days out of the year. Never bought anything there (since I could only go on G.P. days) but they had tons of stuff. There is (or used to be) a shop in Fells Point in Baltimore that had tons of salvaged building materials (all antique). I want to see if it is still there so I can look for stuff for my basement.

I've heard about a Re-use Barn in Waldorf (Renner Road) - I guess it's at the landfill where volunteers rescues usable stuff. Haven't been to it but I would guess the stuff that is available varies from week to week.
My understanding is that businesses and people donate good, reuseable building materials and whatnot to them. They do not get stuff from the dump.

Be sure to check out www.southernsalesservices.com. It's an auction type sales warehouse out of Jessup. The auctions are held about every six weeks ... but you can get some awesome deals.

We just did an addition and paid $200 each for double wide (two windows side by side, but in one frame) Anderson windows.

Mahogany & beveled glass doors with side transoms went for $1500.00. We got 18x18 ceramic tiles for $1 a square foot.

You can go in on the Friday before an auction to look around and see if they have what you want.

Also, Habitat for Humanity just opened a re-sale store ... in Northern Virginia. I can't remember just where - but I'm sure a quick search on the net will turn it up for you.
