We're heading to Tenant's Harbor, Maine (The Blue Tulip) for our anniversary in July. We plan to leave on a Friday, stay somewhere overnight, then arrive in Maine Saturday morning/afternoon. Has anybody made this trip (SoMd to ME) and have any suggestions on a good place to visit/stay overnight? We're not into the bright lights of the city, so would prefer something quiet, and maybe with a good view. We're going to ask the folks we are going to visit for suggestions when they send us the directions, but I thought I would toss it out here and see what I got!! TIA!! :buddies:

That's only about a 12 hour drive.

Make sure to get a lobster roll at Red's when you're in Wisscasset

:yay: We like to take our time when we travel and stop at lots of different places along the way. Thus, the overnighter. Besides, I have to collect a magnet for every place we visit!!! Our hosts have already promised us the biggest and best lobsters Maine has to offer when we get there!!! We are SO looking forward to this trip.

I've never been to Maine, but on my way to Cape Cod I would always stop in Mystic CT.

My mom loved to stay here: Inn at Mystic Your Mystic Vacation Destination - Overlooking Mystic Harbor & Long Island Sound. Enjoy 25% Off all Rooms with Dining at the Flood Tide Restaurant. Phone: (860) 536-9604 or (800) 237-2415 &bull

My sister and I would just stop at Mystic Pizza, eat a slice, and get back on the road.

Beautiful town.

Then just find a place when you get tired of driving

Marblehead, Massachusetts. Stayed there at a B&B while visiting Boston years ago. Neat town and convenient to Boston and points north. :yay:

IF I was going to Stop, I'd stop somewhere along Rte 1 or 1A in NH..

Portsmouth is a very nice town to do the Pedestrian thing, but South of Portsmouth are a lot of state parks and beaches.
Hampton probably wouldn't be your cup of tea.. LOT of bars and the like.

And if you want to go a little further, go up to the White Mountins, BEAUTIFUL country up there, and then cut East to go to Maine.

LOT's of choices, but personally I wouldn't stop in Mass, MAYBE Rhode Island.

And look to Dover, NH and look for Newick's Seafood.. Dirtfloors, picnic tables, paper plates and plastic ware. YUMMMMM!!

Cool! I drove by there on my way to Port Clyde in March!

Given that I have been only that one time, I don't have many recommendations for places to eat, etc. But I will say you must spend an evening at the Marshall Point Lighthouse; you can stand in Tom Hanks's footsteps (Forrest Gump) and the sunset will make the whole trip worthwhile.
