Verizon complaint. Request feedback

I recently moved to the laurel glen apartments and have been using Verizon dsl for months. I paid 39.99 for there up to 3 mbps service and for some time have felt ripped off because even though a speed test shows I get close to 3 Meg's ever file I have ever downloaded has never downloaded faster then 300kbps. So I call them up and say since you can't give me the speed I'm paying for lower my speed to the 1 Mbps service. the lady quoted me 19.99 for that service. After I saw my bill had not changed I called them back and they only had a record of my low speed complaint. I then told them again to lower my speed but now they quoted me 29.99. They said the don't have a cheaper service. At this point trying to talk the Indian person on the line is getting hard so I jest tell them to lower the speed. After 2 day the speed it lowered and I'm now lucky if I can get above dial up speed. I call them to have them raise
My speed to the olds service of 3 Megs but now they tell me the price just changed to 44.99. Wtf!!! I complained but they said there was nothing they can do for me. What can I do about this? Trying to talk to verizon customer service is frustrating and most of the time the Indian accent is so think I get headache.

I welcome any advice. Thanks

Just so you know the speed is advertised in megabits per second, while many downloading software notates it in kilobytes per second. In other words, 3 Mega bits per second = 375 Kilo Bytes per second. You were getting very close to what your supposed to.

Thanks I wish I new that before

I always thought that kilobytes where less the megabytes. For ex 500 Kbps = 0.5 mbps.

change your service online

There is also a $10 a month deduction in the price if you have a land line

Also, it depends on the DL source. I find many places don't DL faster than 300-400k except for paid stuff which will frequently hit 700-900kbps (only a few beat that). My speed is tested at ~8-9 mbps. Even though you have the speed, it doesn't mean itscoming that fast. The difference is I can have a couple DLs at a time at provided speed.

You need to divide your advertised speed by 8 to get your download speed. Simple as that. The difference between bits and bytes. Its the first thing verizons tech support should have told you, but its common knowlege that verizon has sucky customer support, so I'm not suprised if they didn't.

The reason you got 756Kbytes from a 3 meg service is the same as why I get 1200Kbytes from a 7 meg service. Your isp wasn't stringent about capping you at the advertised limit. Some times you get lucky.

What I usually do in situtions like yours is to keep calling the company until someone gives me an answer Im looking for. That will work 9 out of 10 times.

Not all servers allow speeds you are supposed to get from your ISP, a lot of them are capped, especially busy/popular servers. I can go DL files from one site on my FIOS and get 25mb DL speeds, then I can go to another and get half of that and sometimes less.

Request to speak to a Supervisor and tell them the same thing you have posted. If you are courteous, they will usually help you, they are the ones that can make these types of decisions!

Another thing that I have done...
If they don't speak english clearly, or don't seem to understand a situation, request to speak with someone else until you get one that does. Sometimes its just a matter of them understanding what you want...

I don't have DSL and I never thought I'd ever be a Verizon customer but now I have another service through them. Their Customer support was really horrible at one time but has since improved, dramatically.

Also, it depends on the DL source.

I have blazed faster then the 2 T-1's at work, on a single, well seeded download .....

I typically get 42 Mpbs down and 36 up on my FiOS 35/35 connection
