Thanks all for your kind words, thoughts, advice and prayers.

What I face in having to deal with death and my kids is absolutely nothing compared to what my cousin and her family are facing. Rebecca was diagnosed with the brain tumor at 5 years of age - in May 2004. It all started with tummy pain and constipation. Apparently, any unexplained continuous stomach pain in a child is indicative of a possible brain tumor - which was confirmed by MRI at Children’s Hospital. This little girl survived brain surgery where the surgeons were unable to remove all of the tumor. Her parents were told that she only had a 80/20% chance of surviving the surgery. In the past year, she has received a lifetime does of radiation. She attended her first day of kindergarten this past September but was unable to attend most days due to side affects of the meds. She missed class picture day but the school photoshopped her into the picture. She attended a Catholic school and the uniform company made her a special hat that matched her uniform when she lost her hair. Rebecca has four siblings, 2 older brothers, 1 older sister and 1 younger brother. Its all just so heart breaking and sad.

I hope they can make the most of whatever time is left.

Your message has motivated me to make a donation to the Make A Wish Foundation.

WTG!!! Make A Wish Foundation sent Rebecca and her entire family to Disney World this past November.

I could not imagine what your family is going through right now. All I can offer is my thoughts and prayers :huggy: I am sure there are some great children's books out there that will help them help them understand this great loss.

Citysherry, call your local mortuary. They have literature available for various types of grieving and are in a position to give you good advice.
:yeahthat: A bereavement counselor will be able to help. :huggy:

My nephew was diagnosed with a brain tumor at age 8. He was supposed to have a short, uncomfortable life. Over thirty operations later and almost 30 years old, he's still with us. They've never been able to get all of the tumor, so have had to go back in many times, but they've found that the altitude in CO has reduced the growth rate of the tumor. They were in FL when the tumor was discovered. He is now blind and has short term memory loss, but he's still alive.

Unfortunately, the “roots” of this tumor are in the Thalamus - apparently of all the known brain tumors Rebecca’s is the worst of the worst. The doctor used the words “we can offer you no hope, take her home and make her comfortable.”

Thoughts and prayers are with the entire family. What a heartbreaking story. I think I'll go hug my two little ones! :bawl:

That's where my nephews tumor is located. That's the reason why he's had so many operations...they can never remove the entire tumor without causing permanent severe brain damage. That's why I shared my story. There is always hope.

It's really a tough time. We lost my younger brother a few years ago and the family especially my mother was devastated, especially since it was suicide. I suspect that they'll need any support they can get but they'll also need some time to grieve alone.

It's nice place (the Make a Wish Celebration complex. If it is as I remember it.) There are plenty of fun things to do. When I was in high school we did some volunteering there during holidays like Christmas.

For those that wish, the following is a Novena created for Rebecca by a wonderful gentleman named Juan from the Sacred Heart parish. Please pray this Novena with us asking the Lord to heal Rebecca as we are basically out of medical options, but still very hopeful.

Prayer for Graces and Consolations through the intercession of the Servant of God, Pope John Paul II

O Blessed Trinity,
We thank you for having graced the Church
with John Paul II and for allowing the tenderness of your Fatherly care,
the glory of the cross of Christ, and the splendor of the Holy Spirit,
to shine through him.

Trusting fully in Your infinite mercy and in the
maternal intercession of Mary,
he has given us a living image of Jesus the Good Shepherd,
and has shown us that holiness is the necessary measure of
ordinary Christian life and the way of
achieving eternal communion with you.

Grant us, by his intercession,
and according to Your will, the graces we implore:

The miracle of a cure for little Rebecca Hatef
through the intercession of John Paul II
for the good of all our families, our friends,
and for the whole Church.

O Blessed Trinity,
we ask you for this consolation with confidence and preserverance,
hoping that John Paul II will soon be numbered among your saints.
Amen.

What a gorgeous girl.

I printed the novena and I will make sure that it is read with her in my thoughts for (at least) the next nine nights.
