Victim anonymity

The baynet has a story about an attempted rape and they identify the victim by name, age, residence, and criminal history. This sounds absolutely wrong to me. Do they have no respect for the victim?

Is it just me, or are they doing a major disservice to the communtiy by posting this?

It sounds like the baynet folks don't believe the victim. Criminal "history?"
She said YES, then cried rape? Maybe?

I didn't think you could provide that information for anyone who is a victim of a sexual crime even if they are an adult.

you can not have Victim anonymity. If the crime goes to court it is a matter of public record.

The paper doesn't care about respect. THey only care about what they think people want to read.

From what I understand, the media doesn't reveal the victim's identity as an unwritten rule, part of a code of ethics (unless the victim wishes to be identified). I don't think it's against the law to identify a victim publicly. So either this woman wanted her name out there (some do), or the Baynet has no concept of ethics. You decide. :lmao:

I see it as sort of like the prison code of ethics. You know, the murderers and thieves attacking the child molesters.

What is there about a theft conviction last year that is relevant to attempted rape at gunpoint?

Any lawyer would argue that if she is a convicted thief that her testimony lacks credibility. It sounds like there are no witnesses in this case and the rape never occurred. It will just come down to his word ageist hers.

I don't think that either the alleged victim or the accused should have their name published until the matter is settled in court. The accuser has a right to privacy and the accused is innocent until proven guilty.
