Victim anonymity

I don't that that either either the alleged victim or the accused should have their name published until the matter is settled in court. The accuser has a right to privacy and the accused is innocent until proven guilty.

were they trying to make a point because right after the report of abuse they listed a blurb about a charge

What is there about a theft conviction last year that is relevant to attempted rape at gunpoint?

i am not saying her prior is relevent to the attempted rape...

but i know that my brother in law spent a year in jail on an assault charge and once he was released they lived with me until they could get a place of their own, while on probation/parole he had no right to privacy....the cops could entire my house no questions asked with out a warrant or anything...basically to check and make sure he had no weapons etc... they even took a bat from my house because it had no glove w/ it so it was concidered a weapon... he almost got violated for that bat, luckily it was in the play room and not anywhere else.

so that is why i was thinking they had her name published

you can not have Victim anonymity. If the crime goes to court it is a matter of public record.

The paper doesn't care about respect. THey only care about what they think people want to read.

I actually think it is a Maryland law to keep victim's names (even alleged victims) anonymous when reporting about it. They are supposed to black out their name in court records.

I agree! Most rape cases are legit, but there are a select few (i.e. Duke boys) who still never recover from an allegation that was false. I think both names should be withheld until court ends.

FROM THE BAYNET...

"The Bay Net sincerely apologizes that the name of the victim was initially included in this article. We are reviewing the procedures that enabled this to happen and will ensure it does not happen again. Revealing the name of a rape victim is something The Bay Net has never done in the past and something that is very much against our policy. Our apologies. "

too late; if it was posted on the web, does that mean it went to print

I don't know but I found it interesting they posted that. Perhaps this thread sparked their reaction.

20 to 40% of rape case are false. Which is a very high number in my book.

karma message: "Doesn't your keyboard have a shift key or punctuation?"

nope--this is a forum, nothing formal. if it flows and it's readible, then it is what it is. i'm not going to continuously proofread to see if i dotted every "i" and cross every "t", check for correct grammar (i don't see the big deal if i type "saw" or "had seen". as far as the shift key goes-please tell me what's the diference between a capital/lowercase letter? isn't it still the same word

i wish you would have signed your karma so i don't have to include everyone in my response that could have been sent directly to you

The baynet is a web site, not a newspaper.

ooppss!! maybe i was thinking about the paper they have on the main page of this website

for that matter, how many people have read/forwarded this article--her name is already out there and it can't be retracted; but could it have been intentional or oversite because i still don't see the relevance in mentioning her prior

You are right, but they have corrected the problem the only way they could.
