Vinegar as a weed killer

Has anyone tried it? A guy I know swears by strong (30%) vinegar, dawn, epsom salts and water to kill weeds. He says it stinks but is just as effective and much safer than round up.
A distributor I buy from has the 30% gallon jugs but I have to buy four. I am trying to not use pesticides or herbicides on my property.
Any feedback? Thanks.

I swear by it, much cheaper and safer, I think.

Hmm. Well, according the Wikipedia page on vinegar, "Twenty percent acetic acid vinegar can be used as a herbicide, but acetic acid is not absorbed into root systems so the vinegar will only kill the top growth and perennial plants may reshoot." So there must be something to it.

I have used a salt water solution with just water to kill grass and weeds in areas I dont want to use Roundup......
I just put a few pounds of bagged salt in a 5 gallon bucket and fill with water and let sit for a few days. I apply with a backpack sprayer every week or so and it stays clean. Cheap and easy....

Hi ff, your distributor sells it premixed? How much for four? We have tried the vinegar, dawn and SALT. Yes it works and it kills but not for long. The weeds comeback pretty quickly. I dont' like using pesticides either but hubby hates weeds in the driveway.

The jugs only contain vinegar. You would have to add Epsom salts and dawn. I think they were $13 or $14 ea wholesale.

Believe it or not a house down the road used one to torch their entire yard and replanted it. The new seed came up really quick and looks great. That was a lot of work though, took them all day to torch the yard
