Vista

We will be getting Vista soon at work. Is there a big difference between this and Windows 2000? Easy/Hard?

Just getting use to the interface for the most part. The jump should not be too bad. A Windows user should take about a day or so to be finding your way around. After being on it solid for 2 months I have ditched my XP Pro build, VISTA SP1 is very, very stable and handles Dual and Quad Core processors much quicker than XP.

your company skipped XP and went straight to Vista?

Vista is a different interface, but it's relatively easy to work with once you get used to it. Just sit down one day and play with it and search for everything. It's not too difficult.

Good point - if you get stumped, use Google to search for what you want to do, there is PLENTY of help out there on Vista.

BG's new HOTPINK laptop came with Vista on it..

So far I like it.. though their security can be a little infuriating at times.

EVERY 5 seconds when i first started with it a security message would pop up about something I was doing, or something I wanted to do...

My Vista has never crashed...
Lovin it! Real easy to use.

My VISTA hasn't crashed, but my IE "Has stopped working".. and explorer shuts down.

Took me 1/2 day to download 70 pictures to SmugMug.. Get 1/2 way done.. and "internet Explorer has stopped working".. BLIP.. gone.

I know :frown: I realized after I typed it my mistake and was just hoping no nerds would catch it :killingme
BUT
2000 was/is one of the most vulnerable OS to viruses, and the like :yahoo:

yeah, ME was -the- worst. 2000 worked fine. XP pro feels similar to 2000. Vista has a different feel, but once you're use to it you become happy. I've had similar crash experiences with XP and Vista. No significant change that I can tell.

Turn it off. Its the first thing I do on any Vista install.
I hate having to give the PC the ok before it does anything. Turn that off Bob and it will be alot better.

Its under the users section.

try google chrome or mozilla firefox for stuff like that. IE crashes for me alot due to some sort of .dll file associated with McAfee. Stupid McAfee!

that can be annoying. i typically don't notice it, except for a couple of things that for whatever reason require 'admin' priviledge. That and deleting something in IE's favorite places (or even moving something around) is like pulling teeth. I don't know why they had to make something so simple turn into something so difficult. :jameo:

That maybe it.. I think I run McAfee on it too.. hate it at work, slows me WAAAAY down too.

I'll have to check when I get home, and if it is, I'll just uninstal McAfee...

Do have Google Chrome installed. Haven't used it much, but it does seem to be quicker and more stable.

Stupid Computer killer!

Fixed for you... Obviously I hate McAfee.
I havent had a virus protector on any of my machines for years and never had one virus. On my older machines (with McAfee on them) I got so many trojans and virus' that id have to format the whole pc a few times a year.

the main problem i've had with chrome is the extras. it might be better now, but it had some java and flash issues at first. nobody had made the appropriate updates for them. i just DLed a java update the other day but haven't played with it since...so maybe they're catching up. Once that's resolved, it seems to be better than IE.
