I struggled with where to put this. It's about cars, so maybe in The Ride. Informing people that they have been had about how clean the car they bought is, well that's Consumer Affairs. The EPA and CARB, both govt agencies, are bringing the hammer down, could be Politics.
In any case, VW had a hard time meeting EPA regs for emissions. So what they did was code the engine management system, such that it could tell when it was being emissions tested, and would jigger engine parameters to keep emissions down during the test........ Looks like the real emissions could be anywhere from 10% to 40% higher than it's supposed to be.
