Proposed Plumbing Test Draws Criticism - Southern Maryland News, Charles County, Calvert County and St. Mary's County News

A public hearing was held Tuesday by the St. Mary’s County Commissioners to consider updating the code from a national 2006 standard to the latest 2009 edition. The proposal, however, also contains the suggestion by the St. Mary’s County Plumbing and Fuel Gas Board to require the person doing the work, such as installing a dishwasher in their home, to appear at one of their monthly meeting and take a test.

The proposal for the test was not well received by several commissioners. Commissioner Cynthia Jones (R: 1st) wanted to know what the existing problem was that would be addressed by requiring a test and someone getting 70 percent on the test in order to get a permit to do the work.

This proves that we have way too many laws and too many "lawmakers". Everyone wants to create a new law for something and this is the kind of crap we end up with. I want to see someone will start getting rid of stupid laws and give us our freedom back. It will never happen though, nobody is watching out for us, only the rich.....:boxing:

Does it really suprise you that a plumber is wanting harry homeowner to jump through a bunch of hoops (or call a licensed professional) to do a job that a moderately capable sixth grader could do.

did you and that other idiot making assumptions not get? The politicians aren't endorsing this nonsense, but they are obligated to listen to every lame brain idea because they work for us.

I'm all for bashing politicians when the deserve it, but read the article so you know what the hell you are talking about!

The article mentioned it wasnt well received by several, what I want to know is if there were any that were nodding their heads

"The commissioners left the record open for 10 days before making a decision".

I guess it's procedural, to be left open for a period of time so that's it's not viewed as being discriminatory if it was immediately dismissed as flickted?

This is how our freedoms are being eroded one facet at a time. All it needs is a few nodding heads and it can be a new law for us to contend with or be a renegade..

Sounds like someone who is a plumber or in a plumber's union has gotten the ear of a plotitician (sic), and has convinced them to propose this.

If they succeed, the electricians will be next followed by drywall and spacklers.

The day of the DIY homeowner will be no more.

Permits are expensive. What used to be $25 or so for a deck is now outrageous. It cost me $175 in permits/fees before I even started building my deck, and the ONLY reason I went the legal route is because I live in a neighborhood with construction.

Just another example of democratic bullsh**t big government. All democrats and muslims are enemies of the people of the United States.

And what facts do you have that democrats and muslims were behind this? What is the basis that they are enemies of people?

Ignorant statements like this only show your low intelligence. In fact the country is made up of democrats, muslims and many other ethnic backgrounds... are they enemies too? If you don't like this country, why not depart!

Not only does this statement have nothing to do with the thread, it is also absolutely stupid and incorrect.

The laws concerning tree removal companies needing to have a degreed arborist was enacted this way.
