Just a question, because I really dont know - did Tolkein base his character names on traditional Celtic names? Not sure that Arwen or Aragorn are exactly celtic or pagan, only have that association from LOTR.

I have a feeling that in the next four years alot of little Arwens, Eowyns, Aragorns will be running around.

COngrats on being an expectant (and obviously happy!) father!

My son's name is Brendan, chosen for the same reason you are . I have found two meanings for it. One, is "Little Prince" and the other is "Little Raven". It is supposed to be Gaelic in origin. My daughter's name is Raven, which I had found on one site to mean " One who has natural magic". My middle names for them are Jonah and Hope. Hope is obvious and Jonah, although some( my mother mostly, who threw a fit over his name) believe that Jonah is unlucky and traditionally that name has been associated with bad weather and slack winds on a sea voyage, and means "dove" biblically. St .Brendan is also the patron saint of sailorsand seafarers. Look it up , I found the story fascinating.
I think that names are so important. I spent my whole pregnancy determining what names to choose. I have one child for air and one child for water. I am fire ( astrologically) and would hope that whom ever I end up with for the rest of my life, shall be an earth, so that there is some balance.

Good luck in choosing a baby name, I reccomend you start with the sign the baby should be born under, take in to account the circimstances of his/her conception and birth, dominant traits of you and your partner, say, if she has a fascination with flowers and you are (obviously) a Tolkien fan, perhaps Arwen Rose would be nice.
Do not forget the basic rules for naming a child. One, the name must have flow and resonance: typically you have a two syllable first name and a single syllable middle name...Angela Gale, Terry Lee, I am sure you get the idea. Two, please don't burden your child with a name he/she will ahve to exlpain in detail every day for their whole lives... IE..Applecore Beaureagard Shapnaskin Jones. It's cruel and who could even spell that every day. Three, Don't give the child a name that will bring ridicule,...Buttwad Cornholer,or Betty Crocker may be fuuny when your high, but it wil give Junior a complex adndhe will end up paying the big$$ to have it changed in adulthood( no, its not funny my mom's maiden name is Crocker)
Let me know what you come up with. Laters!!

Arwen & Aragorn Are Actually Old Celtic Names Of The Ye Ole.

Arwen means "Fair Maiden"

Aragorn means "Strong One"

:howdy: I really like Aiden for a boy, or actually Kieran (Irish), I'm going to name my kid Kieran James.....I love the name Brendan, and Gavin is nice, too.

For a girl, Janey is a cute name for a baby. :huggy:

(The Irish language has always been a source of wonderment for me; not something you see every day, so I got a kick out of responding to your tagline - hope ya don't mind!)

Kieran sounds like a girl's name.

How about Shamus
