War on Terror to be won by Oct. 2008

Cheer up, World!

Looks as if the Pentagon has a plan to end the Global War on Terror (GWOT) by October 2008! :yahoo:

The Pentagon, in a series of recent memos, is making the fight against terrorism synonymous with Iraq (although it has been pretty much confirmed that Saddam Hussein wasn't involved in the Sept. 11 attacks) and has issued a clear call for getting the job done by the end of next year.

In a Dec. 6 memo to top civilian and military folks, Deputy Defense Secretary Gordon England outlined the Pentagon's eight priorities for this fiscal year, and No. 1 was "Win the Global War on Terror," or GWOT.

The No. 3 goal was "Meet the Challenge of Improvised Explosive Devices." No. 8 was "Improve Effectiveness and Efficiency Across the Board." England warned that meeting these goals "will inform our decisions on individual senior employee performance ratings." That means their paychecks.
....
So "to ensure that warfighters and taxpayers receive maximum benefit from on-going initiatives," England suggested, "it would be highly desirable to complete current projects by the summer/fall of 2008."

There's a handy "notional" grid with the memos, with the eight priorities down the left side and quarterly milestones for 2007 and 2008 across the top. Little triangles denote the "expected milestone conclusion date."

Sure enough, the GWOT looks to be over around October 2008, a month before. . . .

...before what?!?!

No matter...we can all sleep soundly, knowing that everything's going according to plan....and all this terrorism will be eliminated by October 2008.

And all this time I thought the Bushies didn't have a plan. :whack:

When will these morons figure out that the GWOT is not solely about 9/11?

Terrorism will be defeated by October, 2008! :yahoo:

Don't you get it? They made a chart, and put a triangle in the column that intersects Priority #1 (win the GWOT), with the desired completion date of October 2008. It's a done deal...there's a chart. :yay:

And...just for added motivation...
England warned that meeting these goals "will inform our decisions on individual senior employee performance ratings."
Win the War on Terror by October, 2008....or you'll get a bad performance rating! :wench:

I can just picture it now. Maybe dress the President up in a flight suit...fly him onto an aircraft carrier...hang a banner up behind him...something to the effect of "Mission Accomplished"...and let him declare victory over all the terrorists. It's going to be freakin' awesome!!! :patriot:

I just wonder if the terrorists are aware they are going to be out of business after that.

I'm sure they know.

Dep. Sec. England would have made sure to CC them a copy of the memo. Hopefully he made sure to request a delivery/read receipt from each terrorist. He'll want everybody on the same page, as this memo is not your typical "remember to attach a cover sheet to your TPS reports" type of memo.

This is important...performance ratings are on the line.

No, I don't. What caught my attention was the "it would be highly desirable to complete current projects by the summer/fall of 2008." Plus, I'm not positive that the Deputy Defense Secretary is in charge of these things. But someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

What I saw, #1, was a snarky op-ed piece - hardly objective news. What I DIDN'T see was the actual memo in question. Help me understand how this columnist's impressions mean that the GWOT will be won by Oct 2008?

Damn. I have to re-think the way I do my work.

Let's see - we're switching over to a Unix system in a year's time. Our current stuff won't run on Unix.

I guess my current projects HAVE to be done by then!

I would NEVER have come up with that.

Thanks! I'd still be thinking I have oodles of time.

But....but.......

There's a memo. With a chart. Not just any kind of chart...one with triangles.

Triangles, Vrai.

Did they make a chart? If so...you better get to work! No more wasting time on the internets. :nono:

You know Kerad, you liberals are the only ones that keep making the correlation between Saddam and 911. The other thing that cracks me up about this is when you liberals keep demanding a timeline for the war to be over, and when the Pentagon actually provides one you scoff at it.

You libs have all your arguments in a row:

Libs: Saddam is an evil man with WMD and ties to terrorists and needs to be removed from power
Bush: Okay, I’ll go in and take care of that
Libs: Bush lied and led us into an illegal war

Libs: We approve Bush’s wish to go to war in Iraq
Bush: thank you, they are on their way
Libs: Oooopppsss.. we changed our minds and will try to retract our approval

Libs: We need a change in direction
Bush: I’m instituting a change in direction
Libs: Not good enough

Libs: We need more troops on the ground
Bush: Okay, I’m going to put more troops on the ground
Libs: Bush is sending more of our children to die for this illegal war

Libs: We need a timeline for withdrawal
Bush: Okay, we’ll be done by Oct 08
Libs: Yeah right. Not if we have our way. We can’t win and we will make sure we can’t win by getting out NOW!

No matter what this administration does you libs find a way to demonize it. It’s really playing to be a sick joke on the American people.

You know Kerad....

It's time you stop thinking small and start thinking like the big boys. October 2008 isn't the timeline to end the war in Iraq...it's the projected time we'll win the entire War on Terror.

I'm certainly not criticizing this news...I think it's great! :yay: Sure, it means I have to admit I was wrong about Dubya all this time. He did have a plan all along. But I'm fine with that....he's going to win the War on Terror! Yay!!!

I may have to become a Republican, now...they've got it all sussed out!

Oh, so you're one of the BIG BOYS? Kerad you are so mired in your left-wing arrogance you would see yourself as one of the BIG BOYS.

What news are you talking about? All you pointed to was an op-ed piece.

Wouldn't you think that, if this were news, it would be somewhere other than in an editorial?

You're either with us or you're against us. Are you a terrorist? If so, your days are numbered. Come October of next year...you're shut down.
(Check your email...you should have received the memo.)

They've always had a plan. And a plan 'b'. And they have contingency plans. I'll bet they have a plan for India going to war with Pakistan - for Russians pouring into one of their former republics - for China invading Taiwan. "Having a plan" is only a guarantee of success if you're a liberal and don't have to make plans.

And this is only to those missing the obvious, but Democrat win or not, the administration changes hands on Jan 20, 2009, and unless it's Jeb Bush or a clone of George, all current objectives are probably gone by then. Translation, you'd better get as many objectives done by Oct 2008, because Democrat or Republican, you're not going to get any more time on them.

This should be obvious to anyone, even snarky op-ed writers.

You would think so, until you realize that the liberal, mainstream media must have formed a secret pact to prevent this piece of good news from getting out. Obviously they're going to try to silence any news which may demoralize the terrorists. How effective would the terrorists be if they knew it was all coming to an end by October '08?

Think about it.

When a car bomb explodes in Baghdad, killing 24 people...what is the headline? It's "24 Killed By Car Bomb Explosion In Central Baghdad" If they weren't trying to embolden the terrorists, it would read "Everybody On the Planet except for 24 people Survives Automobile Mishap. Puppies Playfully Rejoice"

Damn liberal media.
