By now I assume we have all rec'd our policy change and $$$ increase from Waste Mgnt. Our trash removal bill is (like cable) ever increasing. Is there a reasonably priced trash service in the area (northern St. Mary's)?

I haven't had a trash bill in years, ever since they built the transfer station near Lettie Dent. How much is trash pickup now anyway?

I called WM a couple of days ago... Their new fees will be $33/month plus tax and a fuel surcharge for twice a week pick-up. Add $14.50 if you want a second trash can. Their "service" is going up from $91.12 a quarter ($30.30 a month) to $109.01 a quarter ($36.37 a month). ENTIRELY TOO MUCH!!!

We quit WM 2-3 months ago because of rate increases. We had two totes which we would need picked up usually once a week. We decided it wasn't worth $8.00 for them to do it when we go past the transfer station all the time.

And I love companys that charge a "fuel surcharge". So, because gas has gone up, we have to pay your gas bill too? Isn't that a cost of doing business? I know they'll charge us anyway, but don't call it a "fuel surcharge"; it's insulting. Just raise the fee a few bucks and keep it hidden.

Six bucks a month increase is no big deal. That's just .20 a day. How much money do you spend for that cup of coffee or that bottled water? Many of you wouldn't even give it a second thought.

Maybe skip lunch at a fast food joint for 1 day out of the month? Problem solved. Your big behind might even thankyou for it.

No way I'm wasting my Saturday hauling trash to the dumpster.

Case Waste just went up too. Each one of our bills went up 10-15%. Attached was a notice from Calvert Co. Board of Comissioners about this http://www.co.cal.md.us/residents/waste/disposal/
So, it's not just Waste Management.

I use T&S Trash Service. It costs $78.00 for three months and get pick up twice a week. They don't supply the trash cans but are very prompt and are careful where they place the empty ones and don't just throw them down. Haven't heard of a new price increase but I'm paid up until May.

i find it easier and cheaper to haul it your self. go to lowes, spend 10 bucks for a trash can(that may last you a few years, put it in the back of your truck and go. what i tend to do, if i am going down that way to a friends house, or go shopping somewhere, ill throw a few trash bags in my truck and take it down there. its cheaper. also IMO doesnt make your yard look like a mess with 3 trash cans in front of your house.

Just me
With just 2 of us in the household, we rarely fill a can a week. So every other Sat or so, we load 2 trash cans and our recycling and drive to the convenience center. Depending on how many vehicles are in line ahead of us, it might take 30 minutes from pulling out of the garage to pulling back in. We've lived here just under 2 years, and I don't think we've spent much over $100 for trips to the dump during that time, and that was when we were doing demolition on the house.

I was amazed when we moved here from Florida. We used to get our garbage, yard waste, and recycling picked up once a week for something like $10/month. Even figuring my time and gas, it's lots cheaper for me to haul my own a couple of times a month.
