They had a story in the Post this morning about a Republican family in Texas - tomorrow they'll do one about a Democrat family in San Francisco. Today's story about the Rep family was sneering and elitist in the way it was written - the author seemed to shudder at the thought of them having grilled burgers with AMERICAN (not Swiss or Provolone) cheese and tater tots.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A41964-2004Apr25.html

As I was telling Larry about this article over pancakes (plain ol' flapjacks with maple syrup, not Belgian waffles with fresh fruit or creme fraiche), I thought maybe I was being too harsh. Maybe the author wasn't really sneering and I was just being defensive. After all, tater tots aren't a crime. Burgers on the grill isn't anything unusual.

So I checked the DU and this is what THEY had to say:

How can they even compare Bush to Kerry?

Bush is a guy who will chop wood for fire and clear brush like a blue collar worker.

Kerry has got class!

It's like a different country.

Thankfully, it's 3000 miles from Boston.

Please tell me this isn't the real world

This ideal, this lifestlye, is one reason why I'm seiously thinking about moving out of the US. When I was reading this article, I kept thinking about the media, culture, etc. In Canada, and started making a comparison. This article really reinforced my yearning to get out of this country.
:moon:

So anyway, the answer is YES, the elitist liberals DO sneer at normal America. And THIS is why they're going to lose BIG TIME in November. :yay:

You see - it's crap like this that makes me sick.

I've always prided myself on being non-partisan, non-idealogically driven, and even socially liberal (not Liberal, but liberal - as in open-minded). But every time I read something like this, I just want to #####-slap the entire left side of the aisle.

The arrogance and hypocrisy of those people are going to drive me to register myself as a republican.

I can see it coming.

The one good thing about all those sneering little elistist prig bastards who look down on people who chop wood, and hunt their own food - they will be the first ones to starve and die from exposure, come the revolution.

Soooooo...Tox....what could I do to push you over the edge?

Oooh! I know! How about this:

redneck communities are what the future are all about?
Because the guy drinks Bud Light, drives a Chevy and eats tater tots!

:lmao:

Could these people BE any more out of touch?

Just remind me that there are no benefits gained by being a registered Independant.

The only thing it ensures is that I can't vote in a primary very often. :ohwell:

I don't think that if I registered as a (R) or (D) it would change my voting habits at all (except the aforementioned primaries), so maybe one of these days, I'll do it.

Dear DJ,
I must confess that Saturday night I had cheese fondu made with imported cheese. Will you still be my friend?

I sympathize. Before the '80s, you used to hear many Republicans talking bad about country people, mostly in labeling Jimmy and Billy Carter as ignorant rednecks and so forth. There were plenty of reasons to criticize the Carters, but that's no excuse for elitism.

I can't stand elitist self-righteousness of any sort, political or religious. Socially elitist liberals and religiously elitist conservatives both poison the political debate. They're both intent on telling other people how to live. They should just mind their own damn business.

I remember in school in GA. During a mock election Carter Vs. Ford, I was the only Ford vote. I guess I was conservative long before I realized it.

 I laughed at Billy, too. He was ignorant, but it had nothing to do with his country heritage. He was just bone-stick stupid.

I'm saying if you're going to criticize his brother for something, criticize his performance as President.
