We had a Rottie but he got cancer and had to be put down. It was awful! My husband is ready for another, it has been almost 11 years! We have a Chessie now and a terrier mix. Yes on the neutering. Without question. I have three kids, 10, 8 and 2.happyappygirl said:Only have 3 - boys...i'm not sure.
Do you have little kids?
Will you neuter?
Any experience with a working breed?
You need to submit them to the OFA to know their status. I am using Penn Hip. I may not OFA anymore, with the advent of Penn Hip. It gives the actual hip laxity index, in addition to size and shape, and is an actual numeric measurement rather than 3 opinions like OFA is.Softballkid said:His hips have been XRayed, they said they looked very good (going off the vets word and the XRay photos)
The vet also showed me how to check there hips by feel and all that....
Her hips, I will definitely check in to all that...
And I understand what you mean about disqualifications, Ive read that in a few books I have...
The tail from what Ive read, is supposed to be cropped 1 1/2-2"
I know your being ruthless, and I appreciate it, cuz as someone who is trying to get into breeding, I need to know ALL of this... so correct me if Im wrong, or PM me, or hell, call me, its my first time(breeding) so I know there is alot I dont know yet.... Any info will help though

happyappygirl said:sure! but don't be in a hurry to buy a girl just so you can be your own little production house
Rotts can be a real liability. Like selling a loaded gun to the wrong person.
BTW my website hasn't been updated for a while, i get way too many requests for pups i can't meet the demand so i just kind of let it go. My ISP also crashed without backing up files, so several pix were also lost. I changed computers and the pix were on my old one. I will go in and update it...when i get a moment I have to add the horses anyways.
she wasn't last year, but there were only 2 last year. they are 2 days old. born sunday.appyday said:Yep that is true...I assumed she just had them and needed to come into milk..it would not make a difference if she is a poor milk producer (whole 8 weeks) in the first place...
a CHESSIE?? I'm guessing you DO have experience with working dogscamily said:We had a Rottie but he got cancer and had to be put down. It was awful! It actually is used to evoke contractions, so any additional junk is expelled from the uterus after whelping, or to re-start stalled labor. If given too early in the process, like if you are in a hurry to start labor, it can (and does) rupture the uterus. Then you have a mell of a hess. I only use it when i think the girlie is done and want to make sure all placentas are out. But i don't have any on hand.cattitude said:Oxytocin is only to cause the milk to start (let down), it doesn't make the mother produce more milk.
Oh yes! He is a pound puppy as well and had no obedience training. Nothing like an unruly hard head like a Chessie. He has been through school now and is a well mannered boy (well, for the most part). He is "loud noise shy" so this is why we figure he was sent to the pound, not a good hunter. He is a HUGE lover though.happyappygirl said:a CHESSIE?? I'm guessing you DO have experience with working dogs

Do you put that on powdered? She's lovin' the chicken gravy...might have ruined that possibility already, but that milk replacer makes more sense nutritionally. I'll have to send Rottncop in tomorrow. TIA~appyday said:I always have to feed mine like that too for the first few days....good luck...also can get a huge thing (5 lbs) of high pro milk replacer powder for $20 at the henyard..mine love that on their food..
