Wedding on a Budget

In October of next year my fiance and I are getting married. We chose Greenwell State Park for the wedding, and are still looking around for reception areas. We are on a fairly strict budget, and are currently browsing through the many options for catering/photography/DJ/etc. We don't have the biggest budget and are looking for the best value for our money. What do the great people of somd.com recommend for budget friendly weddings around here?

One of our day care providers got married on a budget and she used Rita B's catering. The food was pretty good.

Also we had Randy's Ribs cater a party for us and they were very affordable, plus the food was FANTASTIC!

Congrats!!

Leonardtown Fire Department Hall is affordable. The St. Mary's Fairground Org rents out an affordable building for events.

I can't think of the name of it but there is a reception hall that will hold 100 and has a kitchen on Trinity Church rd. in Charles county. I went to a wedding there one time and it was pretty nice and I know it was very affordable

The Elks lodge on Chancellors Run rents their hall and have a catere, check with local churches too. A lot of them have reception rooms with kitchens.

No harm in a pot luck either, it get's the whole family on both sides involved and it's really the old fashion way of a wedding party. That way you can spend more on a cake, beverages, entertainment or even the honeymoon.

I've been to everything from very exclusive catered receptions and HUGE receptions that were pot luck and family organized, and have no complaints on either(but tend to get more to eat at the pot luck :yahoo:). You could do a mix - have meats, cheeses, fuits, et.. catered or on trays and have family make sides, stuff for kids or delicate eaters (older people perhaps) and extra desserts.

It's a good way to the the Mom's involved and out of your & fiancee hair.

A few people have recommended Elks Lodge, and our friends reception was there and it was great, so I am calling them today to set something up. Just looking at the price, they are one of the cheapest options around here, and I heard you get a discount on Personal Touch Catering if you cater through them. Has anyone heard of the flower market in Bowie? Apparently you can get flowers super cheap, if you can put up a good fight.

Not familiar w/ the one in Bowie but when I got married that is what we did. Went to a flower market and bought up a ton and then my bridesmaids and myself did the arrangments for the tables.

We got married at Greenwell last year and had the reception there as well. You can get the lodge and the manor house for a really good price for the weekend. As for food we used Rita B's and for rentals and the DJ we used Elite Beatz. Our wedding cost us less than 6000. We had the lodge and manor for three days, catering, dj, and all the rentals. Greenwell is a really nice place to get married and have your reception.

If you have someone who can do arrangements for you... Potomac Floral Wholesale in Silver Spring, MD. A friend of my aunt did my reception flowers for me, I got double the flowers and arrangements than I would have gotten for the same price from the florist. (She even ended up fixing my bouquet that I did get from the florist.) I used Invincible Entertainment for my DJ, not sure how the price compares to others, but I was happy with them. We used Scarborough Farms (Hollywood) for our flowers. They're grown there on the farm so you have to go with what's seasonal but what we got was perfect for our wedding and reception. We decribed what style we had in mind and what our budget was and Kathy York put together some really neat arrangments. It turned out PERFECT!

For our catering, we used Adam's Ribs from Prince Frederick. My husband wanted a pig, so we got a pig. We were concerned that would give us more of a "picnic" feel instead of a "wedding" so we expressed that to their manager, Chris. Again, what we got was perfect. It looked great, definitely tasted great, and the servers were really awesome.

With both, we feel that we got a heck of a lot for the money we paid.
