Spent the weekend at River Creek Lodge on St. George Island and it was fantastic! It's owned by the same people who own Evans restaurant, which is right next door, and they've really done a nice job. :yay:

The rooms are gorgeous, each with a balcony overlooking either the St. George River or the Potomac, and very comfortable. LARGE bedrooms and bathrooms, a little kitchenette, premium bedding and towels. This morning they had a breakfast buffet at Evans that was excellent. Even with the arctic weather, it was a very cozy little hideaway.

Hats off to Bree, Brian, Geneva, Harry, Shawnee and everyone else who made our weekend such a relaxing pleasure.

So if you want to get away for a mini vacation but can't really "go" away, or you want a romantic evening with your honey (Anniversary? Valentine's Day?), this is where you want to be. I will definitely be going back! It is less than 15 miles from my house, but I felt like I was in another world.

:yay: :yay:

I haven't been to Evans' Restaurant in forever! Used to go a lot with my parents, and when I got older, friends. Since I've been back to the SOMD area, I haven't gone over to St. George Island to explore, so I didn't even know all this was down there!

Good to know! :yay:

Looks really nice! I'm bookmarking their site for the future. I tried to sign up for their mailing list but for some reason, the site won't let me enter the required text :( If anyone else figures it out, let me know!

Thank you for the idea.
So close I swing home, feed the animals and get back before she gets out of bed.

:yay::yay: Vrai, I'm giving you 2 thumbs up!

"St. George Island" now if you could get the county sign makers to correct the road signs they spelled wrong!

p.s. We have a very nice lighthouse to visit..

Not only do you have a very nice lighthouse to visit, but you have cute neighborhoods on the beach to admire. :yay: Again, I troll that whole area a lot just to drive, walk and chill. I can definitely see why someone would risk the hurricanes to live there.

I thought I saw you in there Friday evening. I was picking up a to go order at the bar. We enjoy going there when they have music. Hope they do well. By the way, think the original owners lost it to the bank, but Bree is doing great bringing in new business and managing it.

I see that sunrise every morning and the sunset on the Potomac everynight.:yahoo:

:yahoo: I love living on the Island.

I looked at the website, it reminds me of that place we stayed in the keys. :yay:

Only if you want to fish from shore. Other than that, it's in BFE.

Which is, to me, a HUGE part of the charm. There is no boardwalk, no shops, no mobs, no roller coasters, no strip malls, no go cart tracks, no bored bikers roaring up and down the strip showing off their two wheeled penis's. It's quiet and slow paced and relaxing as, well, relaxing as BFE but, with gorgeous views, great food, pleasant people and a nice, slow, relaxing pace.

Worlds away. Minutes away. Just fabulous. :buddies:

$130 a night, which was more than reasonable for what we got. This is not a Motel 6 - the beds were plush, the rooms very spacious, fully equipped kitchenette, large balcony with two Adirondack chairs overlooking the water, two flatscreen TVs, separate bedroom, etc. There's a breakfast station in the lobby with pastries, juice, oatmeal, sandwiches, etc.

I'm pretty sure they'll charge more than that in season, but even if it's $200/night, that's still a lot less than what you'd spend for similar accommodations anywhere else.

Plus the advantage of no 3 hour car ride, no I95, no traffic jams, no worries of having forgotten something or needing to have a house/pet sitter, etc.

This is one of those places that, if it was 3 hours away and you had to get on the highway and you had to pack EVERYTHING and you HAD to plan it out, house sitter, etc, people would say "Oh, but it is soooo worth it when you get there! The food, the accommodations, the views, the people, the pace, etc, etc"

Worlds away. Minutes away. :buddies:

Well I for one will be going back. It is by far the best place I've been in St. Mary's County. Actually, all three counties that make up Southern MD. They also make the best bloody mary in the whole wide world. :yay:

Hell yeah, that. Geneva's Bloody Mary, btw! :buddies:

Looking at the website, it definitely looks like a $150+ a night place... the rooms and balcony look really nice. It is nice that it is so close (like if you leave the kids with a sitter or something for a night and need to run home) but on the other hand, I don't think my hubby would spring for a $150 a night place when we live in a nice place that is about 25 minutes away

I see that you can get a kayak though - are there little inlets that you can kayak on nearby? That's a nice thing to offer with the rooms...

I think the shore line on the creek side would make most kyakers happy and the more adventurous could go on the river side.

There is also a good size pier for boats.

In my view, if $130-150 sounds high, I would then place a dollar value on my drive time and gas, tolls and preparation effort saved by being so close by and so easy to get to. Is that worth an extra $50 a night? $100 a night? Me, that's an easy one to value.

It was small, but it's not like we spent that much time there.

Just to make sure I am communicating clearly, that place y'all picked was FABULOUS. The only thing not ab fab was the balcony. And you smokers were fine. The problem was when I wanted to crowd out and join you. :buddies:

I agree totally - I'd spring for it just to feel like I was getting 'away' from the mundane househould stuff... and yes, we do have kids so it would be nice to be close - we could actually get a good sitter and not have to take them 3 hours away to stay with family just so we can go away for the weekend. If we aren't going to be close by, I just don't feel comfortable leaving them with anyone other than my Mom. But if we were half an hour away, I wouldn't mind having a sitter stay the night - and it would be nice to not have to plan so much just to get away.

My hubby might agree to a weekend away - I'll just have to really emphasize the 'romantic' aspect of it and give him a little incentive to spring for the room I guess. :smoochy:

Thanks for mentioning the place though Vrai - we've never been to St. George's Island and I didn't even know the place was there - let alone how nice it is.

You got it. The moment we turn south on 249 off of 5, the stress melts and the pleasure, the 'away' feel kicks in.

I didn't really take it as a complaint, just sayin'...it's not like we were inside that much, so it's a non-issue.
