Any of you ever gone on one of those free/low cost resort weekends where you are required to attend a sales pitch? Are they a total scam, or worth doing?

if u are 100% u can say no, i think they are worth it.

My parents have 2 timeshares and my hubby and i just bought one and we love it, so weve been to quite a few pitches. Our last getaway we used our timeshare and we got something like $75 in cash to hear them update us. I thought it was worth it :yay:

Agree 100%

It is absolutely amazing how they can offer you something at a given figure and they will work your "NO's" till they are below half of where they started. I have gone to a few places and enjoyed a nice weekend that way.

IF I remember correctly..

State of MD, they can NOT require you to attend any presentations or sales pitches for a 'free week-end'.

I may be wrong, but if I'm not that means you can take the free week-end, and do whatever you want to do while you are there.

I had a pool salesman come to the house YEARS ago..

For an above ground pool he started at 15k.. by the time he left he was down to 4k.. I never did buy a pool.

This place is in Williamsburg, VA... I think we're gonna pass and chalk up the small fee we lose as a lesson learned! Might save us money and headache in the long run.

Did Va.Beach once and one in Culpepper, Presidential Resorts. The one in Culpepper was nice but was soert of run down.

ooh my g-ma did that one! We went with her had a great weekend. We were not at a "resort" just a fairly nice older hotel...but she got the hard sell for about 2 hours..and we enjoyed the rest of our weekend.

It's King's Creek Plantation in Wburg- is that the one? I looked online and they have tons of complaints that said it went from being a friendly tour to a hard sell, one-on-one "meeting" that lasted hours! No thanks!

You're a LOON :)
My brother just went to one in Williamsburg this past weekend. I will check with him and see which place it was. They had a short thing they had to listen to and then they enjoyed the rest of there time.

I went to some hotel in VA bch for the weekend and I had to listen to a time share sales pitch for about 1 hr, we just kept saying no but listened to what they had to say. It was worth 2 nights free to listen to some BS for an hour that you know you don't want anyway.

Nothing to see here
Used to be a 'cold feet' law where you can back out of any contract within 72 hrs, just have to notify them by certified mail. Go, sign your life away and then back out..enjoy your weekend!!

I did this once when I was in my 20's.
We sat thru a long, extremely high pressure sales pitch.
Several different people took turns pressuring us.
You can't get up & leave if you want your free weekend!
So basically you're prisoners to these people.
The experience was so horrible we never went back for our free weekend.

I would never never never do it again.

We've gotten sooo many of these offers, but I've always been to chicken to do it. I know we could say no, but I'm always afraid there's going to be some kind of scam.

Exactly!!! Did this once probably 25 years ago and would never do it again. Even though it says its only an hour of your time, thats only for the first sales presentation/pitch. When we said we weren't interested they said "ok well let me go get your vouchers" then his supervisor showed up. Kept saying no and he said the same thing then his manager, then the general manager, then the VP kept pressuring us - two hours later we were finally leaving, and they had a really nasty attitude and basically threw the voucher for the free trip at us. But HEY the place we went to for 4 days in Florida was real nice!!!! But I'd still never do it again

Personally I wouldn't buy one, but if I was so inclined, I'd buy one on the resale market......Buyer's remorse is the most familiar phrase when it comes to them.... I always liked what they called the "yearly" maintenance fee. Never considered something I owned for a week, a yearly fee, it was a weekly fee to me......I would go if I wanted a free couple nights in a motel, I have no problem saying no to people....

We were told at the Home Show in Upper Marlboro, that if you go they can't require you do sit through or even hear a sales pitch over dinner.

Doesn't matter where the timeshare is, if you are resident of MD, and they solicited your participation in MD they can't require you to do anything while there.

And I like what otter brought up. IF you do go to the sales pitch.. 30 seconds in say YES, I've wanted this my entire life.. go about enjoying your week-end, then when you get home cancel it.
