Messagebroadcaster & searchassistant - new scumware/hijackers
So who or what is messagebroadcaster? The owner of this page, ClientMan, Walt Rines, and Sanford Wallace,
http://tired-of-spam.home.comcast.net, recently alerted me to messagebroadcaster.net and searchassistant.net. She says:
Two sites to be on the lookout for are:
http://www.searchassistant.net and
http://www.messagebroadcaster.net. These are both owned by Odysseus Marketing but are currently under construction. SearchAssistant links to Odysseus Marketing and
http://www.whois.sc/messagebroadcaster.net shows MessageBroadcaster to be owned by Odysseus Marketing.
Apparently some people are getting hijacked by messagebroadcaster and are deluged by pop-ups. (Sound familiar? - Yes, shades of Spy Wiper). Well, tonight I did a google search for messagebroadcaster and found this page messagebroadcaster.net/wiper/sw1.htm, which I *do not* recommend you try, because it probably contains malicious code. Interestingly enough, the page contains an ad for Spy Wiper! Who would have thunk it?? The main page for messagebroadcaster claims to be "under construction". What a load of cow manure! I found some forum posts asking for help to get rid of this scumware. Wolstrup Web Design Forums has a thread but does not seem resolve the problem. Dslreports forum has thread about Spy Wiper that mentions messagebroadcaster also. Another one on Tech Support Guy forums
Apparently installing Grokster, among other things, allows ClientMan to get in your computer and I wouldn't doubt that ClientMan is associated with allowing messagebroadcaster to cause problems as well. ClientMan is scumware of the worst kind. See what Pest Patrol says about it and what Andrew Clover of Doxdesk says. Spybot Search & Destroy's lastest update included a new version of ClientMan and AdAware also targets and removes it. However there may be code or versions of ClientMan and messagebroadcaster that are not removed by either. In that case, use HijackThis and consult one of the forums listed on the main page of this blog for more help.
Walt Rines, the owner of Odysseus Marketing is the evil one behind ClientMan, messagebroadcaster and a host of other internet nasties. In my opinion, people like him are nothing but money hungry scumbags who deserve a fate worse than hell. Walt Rines ran the major spam-sending company 'Quantum Communications'. Wired News has written about Walt Rines also.
