Well they found the Cougar...

There are other ways that could have been handled. What a POS. Guess he feels like a big man now for shooting down an animal.

Yeah, he's been in the 'burbs for a few weeks...but thinking about it...if it was cornered and not displaying, he could have drawn and made a call...then again relocating this one...she would prolly' be back. Tough call...I am sure the officer was skeered pretty good. I would have only shot as a last ditch.
In the image...it trotted right by the cop...amazing!
-Tough call...but surely a bummer.

I just thought that if they knew about it, people would be looking for it, could have tranqualized it and sent it somewhere safe where it couldn't come back. What a shame, such a beautiful animal.

Yes, it is a shame that it came down to shooting the animal, but as said before it has been in the area for a few weeks, and would most likely come back into an area like that. They had been looking for the animal for a little while now and could not find it. It was hiding pretty good. I don't think we need to say what they should have or should not have done. If that cat got taken away alive and came back into town and attacked someone, someones child, or pets, we would be saying they should have killed it in the first place. People complain all the time, but they don't stop infringing on what little wild habitat the animals have left. People continue to buy the land, develop it and then worry about the animals, and how fair to treat them.

Come on people, 150 pound cats and people don't mix well. Does anyone think that they should have just waited until it was hungry enough to grab a pet or, God forbid, a child before getting rid of it?

It would help take care of the homeless problem.

So much for controling the rat population in the Windy City the natural way!!!

And while they are out searching for someone with a tranquilizer gun that has enough tranq to down a cougar, the cougar mauls a 2 year old sittin on their stoop. Yeah, that would have been a lot better.

Friggin armchair quarterbacks... What the hell would you have done, not fired a shot until the cat had you by the neck?

Friggin City Cop confronts a cougar.. I'm surprised he didn't get the shotgun out of the car and unload it into the carcass just to make sure. This wasn't a Park Ranger from Yellowstone.. it was a CITY cop!!

Chill, you don't have to get all nasty. I just wanted to be the one who was going to disagree with everyone else. I'm really glad it ended without anyone getting hurt. Sheesh, people really do take these forums too seriously sometimes.

Shooting and working with cougars is amazing work...like I stated earlier...this cat was in the area too long, took some dogs, would have come back...
I didn't mean to imply he murdered the thing...just stating that they finally found the cat....as a follow up to the origional story posted awhile back. By the photo in the story...being that close..the cat wanted to go hide, thus the alley.

I respect others' opinions and didn't want to start a war with this thread. I'll refrain from posting "wild animals found in_________." It obviously lights a fire or two.

Later and enjoy what the world has to offer you today!

I've only seen one in the wild, crossing a dirt road in front of me on the run. It was a thrill I'll always remember.
