But I agree with you. I would never let my pet go because I move. No pets, no move.

Never, ever ceases to amaze me how many poeple move and cannot take their animals with them and I just think it is a big crock of s*** if you ask me. every day I read the claasifieds and every day someone has a post that they need to find a new home for their pet because they are moving or after 3/5/7 years they no longer have time for the animal. I really hate some people. Oh and let's not even get started about the people who always threaten to take the animal to the shelter if it is not adopted by someone. Is that supposed to make us feel guilty?? Us with the houseful of animals that we will be responsible for the rest of their lives so they can feel less guilty. If they can honestly take their animal to the shelter and surrender it they have no conscience.

:yeahthat:

There are apartments EVERYWHERE you go that accepts animals. I know there are some that don't... but then don't stay there!!
I could never ever move without taking my animals.

This is a Navy town. There are many places they could be transferring to that do not allow dogs. Why do people always assume the worst?

Because they let their two intact dogs screw and are dumping the dogs and puppies. These people suck.

So is it better to keep a pet and negelect it?

I do find it irresponsible but sometimes things change and people's lives change as well.

Exactly... I am amused folks are getting so upset with people that are trying to find a home for their animals rather than just take 'em straight to the pound or drop 'em off on a farm somewhere to fend for themselves. Good grief.

:yay: Exactly! There is a whole detachment getting sent to Iraq next month, wife may want to go stay with relatives while hubby is gone and there may be no room for the animals. Better finding a caring home than living in a kennel for a year. JMO
Of course that may not be the deal at all just playing devils advocate.

Well, if your military and KNOW you will be moving within a certain amount of time, why on earth would you even get a pet??? Why not do the RESPONSIBLE thing and NOT get a pet until your sure you can take care of it?

We may have to get rid of our dog. We have to get additional homeowner's insurance because of daycare business, and so far we have yet to find a company that will insure a daycare with a dog (regardless of breed and history of animal).

I almost had to go to Okinawa with my ex husband for 2 years. They do not allow the import of pets. As much as it would have pained me, I would have had to find a new home for my dawg. Sometimes, as a military family, you don't have an option.

so are you saying that all military families shouldn't own pets?

No body should own a pet unless they consider it a lifetime commitment - IMO

And if your reasonably sure your moving in acouple of years and probably can't take your pet with you - that's not a lifetime commitment.
