My son 3 has a speech problem. I want to get help for it. Should i go see the pediatrician? Or is there some one else i can talk to?
For ages 3 and up with suspected developmental delays (speech is a VERY common issue), there is a program called "Child Find" that is run through the Board of Education.
Contact numbers:
Charles: 301-753-1745
Calvert: 410-535-7380
St. Mary's: 301-475-5636

He may qualify for "special Pre-K" too depending on how bad his speech is.
Has he ever had his hearing checked?
Child Find will do a hearing test first thing, since that's the most obvious cause of any speech delay. No but that's on my list. I am 90% deaf in my right ear. I am hoping he is not. I went through 3 surgeries and nothing worked. I have however notice that if i go to the left ear and speak to him i he understands me better. I am trying to get the doctor to check it. Right now i am waiting for someone to call me back from child find. he speaks with his tongue. Like hes biting it.Does that make sense.

Actually, since you have a hearing problem yourself, I'm surprised you've never been asked to have him tested.
When my 2nd and 3rd children were born 7 and 5 years ago, I remember being asked if there was any family history of hearing problems. My brother had some issues as a child that were resolved with surgery, so I said that. They also test children's hearing at birth and have done so for at least the last 5 years. After my 5-yr old was born, I got a letter from the health department telling me that although she'd passed the test given in the hospital, I may want to consider getting her tested again because of the family history.
My son went to Town Creek Elementary for speech therapy when he was 3. That may be where they send you for your child. It was like 2 or 3 times a week we had to go. Worked wonders!
He was tested at birth and was fine. It was always an issue. The past doctors he had said its too early to tell. I am just being paranoid because i have an issue. It doesn't hurt to get it checked.
A couple people in my family think if he goes into speech classes now he will be branded in special ed classes the rest of his life. It's crazy. They are so worried about the stupid things. If there is an issue i rather have it fixed then to be embarrassed because my child is in a special class.

Well, that's some brilliant logic on their part.A couple people in my family think if he goes into speech classes now he will be branded in special ed classes the rest of his life. It's crazy. What do they think is going to happen if he goes into kindergarten and can't speak properly? Chances are, the problem can be solved before then and he will be able to enter school on level with his peers. If you don't do something now, he will just get further and further behind and need to take that much longer to resolve any problems once he does get help.
I was born deaf and the military doctors kept telling my parents that I was just slow and that I wasn't deaf. Finally, at 3 years old, I wasn't talking at all and military doctors were concerned and got my hearing tested. It was confirmed that I have 85% of hearing loss in both ears at 3 years old. I remembered having hearing tests, fitting for hearing aids, wore the hearing aids, attending speech therapist classes. I've never once was branded into a Special Education classes or programs. I graduated from high school with a 4.0 GPA and was in National Honor Society.
I'm speaking very well for a deaf person who was born deaf. Anyone who met me in the forum can vouch that.
I also learned American Sign Language (ASL) along with learning English in writing, speaking, and reading.
