We love PNC. No charges for anything. They even reimburse us for ATM fees if we withdraw money from another bank. Who knows if they'll start pulling crap in the future like other banks are doing? But so far, so good.

I'll be damned if I'm gonna pay a fee to use my debit card. It's bad enough they hit ya for withdrawing your own money from an ATM but to hit you for using your debit card? Screw that!

You might want to wait until they say specifically what accounts will be subject to the fee. I know that all accounts will not get charged a fee, but the specific ones have not been made public yet. It is a big hassle to change banks. If you won't get charged a fee, that's a lot of trouble to go through.

We realized BoA sucked years ago when they went from being Nations Bank to BoA, so switched. I like Navy Fed also. But I have heard good things about Cedar Point too.

Yep.

Navy FCU.

as long as you don't need to go into the Pax River branch office - they are the slowest bunch of tellers I have ever encountered.
Nice
But slooooooooooooow.

CPFUC is nice, it's a small town bank that offers many services and seems to still be growing (in it's offereings). Navy FCU offers more branches around the country. My only complaint is with the local branch, there always seems to be a long line, that moves slow.

Once one bank starts charging, the others usually follow and since they've found yet another guaranteed cash stream...they WILL follow. I think it is a flat, monthly fee rather than per-transaction, but I'm wondering if they charge you only if you actually use your card for debit purchases or on all the the debit cards they have issued? It kind of sucks that everyone pays the same fee whether they use their card once or 100 times a month.

BTW, you can't blame this solely on the banks, they are in business to make money afterall. Blame it on Congress (and more specifically Barney Frank) whose legislation is usually the root cause of everything that screws the consumer:

The Death of Free Debit Cards and Checking Accounts? - Yahoo! Finance

Last year, congress passed and the president signed the Dodd-Frank financial reform bill. In the legislation was a provision that empowered the Fed to limit the fees banks charge retailers each time a customer uses a debit card. Known as the Durbin Amendment after Illinois Senator Dick Durbin, who hatched the idea, the provision affects banks with more than $10 billion in assets. The cap on fees does not apply to smaller banks, prepaid credit cards, or traditional credit cards.

In June, the Fed used its newfound power to cap fees on big bank debit cards to $0.21 per transaction. That represented a more than 50 percent decrease from the average transaction fee charged before the Durbin Amendment. In theory, retailers were supposed to pass these savings on to consumers--at least that's what some politicians claimed. In reality, there is no sign retailers have lowered prices, and big banks have begun hitting consumers with fees.

NFCU is for me. Has been since I joined in 1990.

Oh, thats right, my opinion has no meaning:duel::killingme

Anyway, CPFCU left a bad taste in my mouth in the early 90s, when my wife was a member, but I think they have changed for the better since then. But, if you travel a lot overseas, I think NFCU might understand that a lot better than CPFCU. For sure if you end up needing help in a place like Italy, or the Middle East, NFCU is more likely to have the resources to help.

Cant speak to PNC, no experience with them.

We're cash users too, not big on the debit card. I will reccommend our bank though - County First. Love Love LOVE them. Been banking with them for about 10 years and have nothing but good experiences. Worth checking out

I just opened a couple Navy Fed accounts this week. Will be closing my BoA accounts as soon as I've confirmed the direct deposits have switched over.

This is a generalization. This could be said about airlines charging for baggage and yet Southwest, years later, still does not. I wouldn't stay with BOA on this assumption.

You mean that when you regulate the amount corporations can take in one spot they won't just naturally make up for it in another spot? Like, say, if you tax them more, they will just pay it and not increase the cost to the consumer? Whodathunkit?

My vote is for Navy Federal but if you're near Charlotte Hall you also have the option of using the new Cedar Point branch next to Wawa's...
