what does daycare cost

For daycare I pay $170/wk for my 14 month old.

Now, hiring a sitter for a date night or something is totally different! I'm not sure I'd pay $20/hr but I wouldn't consider $10/hr to be unreasonable depending on whether or not the Munchkin was awake, if the sitter was expected to feed him dinner, put him to bed, etc.

If the grandparents watch him they won't accept money so hubby and I usually try to take them out to lunch or dinner to compensate.

Nanny rates are way different and are generally close to (or above) $20/hr. Is the SIL a licensed nanny or something?

wow. Thats a lot. I pay $230 a week for an infant and 5 year old who isnt in school yet. I have to provide all meals. $240 seems very high. I thought the average for infant was around $160-180 a week.

I didn't think it was that high, I only checked with one other day care provider in my area though. We also provide all meals/snacks/milk and of course diapers/wipes, etc. I love the place though and it's 3 miles from my house so I guess I pay more for convenience.

I'm told it goes down once little ones are potty trained, and then again when they start going to school, and the bus picks them up from the daycare, takes them to school, then returns them back to the daycare. That alone means a lot to me, I see these small, tiny children walking through my development and I couldn't IMAGINE letting my 5 or 6 year old walk all the way through our development then down a half mile private drive...what if it snows or rains...YEAH, I'LL PAY FOR THE CONVENIENCE I THINK :).
