What happened to applebees?

Applebee's are franchises. Some are run well, some not so much.

I can only think of one franchise that has consistently been good over the years. The rest seem to depend on their name recognition (and the fact that people seem to accept poor quality food as long as they don't have to cook). I avoid most franchises like the plague.
Macaroni Grill. Only one I can think of the has been good wherever I've eaten at one and consistently good over the years. I'm sure someone here can find a time when it stunk.

I usually avoid chain restaurants but met a couple of friends at Applebee's a month or so ago for lunch - their choice. I hadn't been there in ages and the food was not bad but it was extremely salty.
