What is the point?

Why do people get dogs and then just leave them outside? The neighbors dogs stay outside day/night hot/cold. These poor animals bark constantly (can't blame them, they are locked in a yard all day). Now they have resorted to fighting each other. What is the point of having a dog if you want nothing to do with it? Maybe I have a skewed point of view when it comes to pets because my dogs are spoiled rotten.

Does it really matter?

ASPCA: The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Dont complain here, take action if you think its warrented.

Same reason people get kids and then leave them outside; once the cute wears off, there's all the crap and feeding and training to deal with.

No fun.

so sad.. reminds me of that poem where the dog is at the pound.. and talks about how his owner loved him and then had no time for him...

You can call animal control. Or go up to the CC Sheriff's Dept and sign an affidavit about the excessive barking.

Poor things. Mine play fight all the time but they only go out to potty. They live inside with me and if I could take them every where with me I would.

Why do you people presume that if a dog is outside it's being mistreated?

I assume that if a dog is left chained outside it gets little attention, because that's what I've seen. I don't know that I've ever known someone that leaves their dog on a chain all day every day that truly loves the dog.

IMO, being chained up 24/7 with little human interaction is a much mistreatment as being starved or beaten. No mental stimulation, love, and attention is as bad for animals as it is for humans.

I must have missed where the OP said the dogs were chained. I looked again and still missed it.

I have an outdoor dog. Wasn't meant to be, but he is. He loves it out there and hates being inside. He gets brought inside each night and during inclement weather, but otherwise, he aggravates the ever loving be-jeebus out of me to get outside where he can roll around in the dirt and grass and watch the neighborhood and bark at the ups man and postman. He's confined to a pen, but isn't chained up and he prefers the hot dirt or snowy grass to a/c comfort on the couch. Just because he's outside the majority of his time, doesn't mean he's abused.

I think presuming something like that is wrong. Talk to your neighbors if it bothers you. It's like presuming since your dog is always inside, you must be kicking it.

Because right now it's like 105 degrees with the humidity. Check to see if they have sufficiant water and it's cold, not outside temp.

Again, how does the OP know? Have they gone over there and talked to their neighbors or are they just presuming since they hear barking that the dog is being mistreated? I just sometimes think people presume the worse without checking the facts.

The OP was asking a question. I didn't see where they said they were going to call AC.

:yeahthat:
And then you have some dogs that are of the brachycephalic type (boxer, pug, boston terrier, etc, any dog with a pushed in nose) that shouldn't be out in such hot weather. I knew of some bulldogs that had asthma and couldn't be out in this.

Lets take into consideration shelter, sure they're in a yard but is there a shaded area, do they have clean water, maybe even a baby pool they can jump into.... Also how big is the place they're in? Is it a pen with enough room to stretch out or is it a yard where they can take off and stretch their legs, even get away from a bug, or wild animal that might harm them..... many things to take into consideration here.

there is no requirement for a dog to have COLD water, and its not even close to 105. even if it was, in a fenced in backyard, that dog is nobody's business but the owners.

the rest of you bitties need to MYOFB
