What is the purpose of the cat treat?

My cats rarely get treats because they must give every morsel a thorough inspection before eating it. I have more important things to do than hold a treat wait for my cat to sniff it for 5 minutes before eating. :cds:

my cats only get there dry catfood no treats as I have one who is a pig and thinks the 1.5cups of food is just for her and she doesn't like to share with my older cat. The vet said not to start now since I didn't start when shes a baby as all cat treats are just a bunch of junk and do no good. Also the ones they say are for tarter control really don't do tarter control (according to the vet).

The reason I ask is that my friend sent me home with some cat treats and said I am to give Claudia several of them a day to try and fatten her up a bit. She's an old spindly girl and could use some extra calories.

She won't touch chicken or anything like that, so don't bother suggesting it. She gets crunchies in the morning and a wet food/cottage cheese mix in the evening. But she still only weighs 4.25 lbs - skinny girl.

Does she like cheese?

My cat definitely doesn't need the treats, he's er...hefty.

But I will say he's become more svelte since we moved into our new house. We have stairs and he has to use them to visit his litter box.

IMO, it's just another effort designed to pretend that the human is in charge of the cat, when really it's the other way around!

Mom's cat will go sit in the kitchen when it's treat time and if Mom doesn't get up & get the cat her treat, the cat comes into the living room, jumps up on Mom's lap & tries to get Mom to follow her into the kitchen. It's really cute to see and definitely shows who is running the show at Mom's!

My cats love string cheese, not only is it fun when you get a nice long "string" but they like the flavor. I can't imagine cheese being bad for a cat.

Our cat sits and stares at the lazy susan cabinet when he thinks its time to be fed. His food hasn't been in there for years. He's not real bright.

Wish my cats would be patient like this, but no, they jump on my head at the crack of dawn.
