What should happen to Lalo?

Lalo was 13 when he helped his dad and older brother take a cedar stump out of the backyard of my new home. Lalo like most 13 year olds wore out sooner than dad and brother. He went to the truck. On occassion over the years Lalo would accompany his father when he worked on my property. In time Lalo graduated from High School. He joined his father's gardening business full time. His intent is to join the Army and serve in Iraq. In the meantime he started a part time business selling IT hardware. Soon he would get out from behind the lawnmower.

Lalo was born in Mexico and the family moved to California when he was two. His parents are illegal/undocumented aliens. Lalo is in a no-man's-land at the moment. He has lived here all his life and has never visited Mexico. He considers himself an American and is willing to fight and die for his country. I parted company with his father once I learned of his status but before I did I had a chance to question Lalo about his status and what he can do. As it turns out if Lalo is "caught" by immigration officials he could end up on the streets of Tijuana Mexico. Does that strike anyone as wrong?

I advised him if stopped to declare he is from Canada or even Sweden. Makes as much sense to drop him off in Vancouver or Stockholm as it does Tijuana. Why should he suffer for foolish mistakes his parents made?

Lalo can't join the Army because he has no social security number. He has a high school diploma, speaks two languages and has a drivers license but doesn't have a social security card. What do you say to Lalo? He isn’t an anchor baby because he wasn’t born here. This boy is a victim of circumstance and the sins of this parents should not be visited on him.

How did he get a DL without a birth certificate?

Lalo is a Mexican National period. He can take his skills and live out his life there unless he is able to legally obtain a visa after returning to his home of record. His parents should be deported as well, they broke the law by sneaking in and assured their son would have problems the rest of his life trying to hide in a country that is not his own. It's not "fair" but nothing in life is. The bad guys here are his parents, he can blame them.

I’m all for deporting illegal aliens but I also don’t think that Lalo should suffer for the sins of his parents.

Tell him thanks for all the hard work. He's illegal either way. Dam the luck and poor choice his parents made. He should be sent back to Mexico to fill out the proper paperwork to become a citizen. He could just go back on his own and save us some money. Not sure how he got a DL. That's probably illegal also. Bye bye lalo. Come back here when you are legal. Hell, if he wants to fight for this country, send him over there. He's been here illegally for so long he should be able to figure out how to get there.

My parents made mistakes every time they didn't pick the right numbers in Lotto - I shouldn't be punished with poverty for their sins either.

Or, we could look at it honestly - he's an illegal alien, regardless of how old he was. Should he be jailed? Well, is he over 18 now, and not going where he knows he's an honest citizen?

Go to Mexico, apply for citizenship/visa/etc., and come back honestly.

What's the problem with Lalo applying for US citizenship and getting legal?

There's nothing wrong with it and it is something he should do. I do think that there should be some kind of fast track system to citizenship for children like Lalo that does not require them to have to leave the US.

He should find :starcat:, and with the $25 in his pocket work out a deal where she will consumate his citizenship.

Balo was 13 when he helped his dad and older brother pry open the window to my house and stole computer. Balo like most 13 year olds wore out sooner than dad and brother. He went to the truck (Do they register autos to illegals ?). On occassion over the years Balo would accompany his father when he worked on my property. In time Balo graduated from High School (paid for by legal US taxpayers). He joined his father's illegal gardening business full time. His intent is to join the Army and serve in Iraq. But since he was ineligiable he started selling/fencing IT hardware part time (where did he get the IT hardware from ?). Soon he would get out from behind the lawnmower.

Balo was born in Mexico and the family moved to California when he was two. His parents are illegal/undocumented aliens (They can apply to be legal). Balo is in a no-man's-land at the moment. He has lived here all his life and has never visited Mexico (all his life ? born in Mexico). He considers himself an American (most illegals do) and is willing to fight and die for his country (many illegals say that but when the time comes they claim they are from other lands). I parted company with his father once I learned of his status (you didn't check it before you hired him ?) but before I did I had a chance to question Balo about his status and what he can do. As it turns out if Balo is "caught" by immigration officials he could end up on the streets of Tijuana Mexico. Does that strike anyone as wrong?

I do feel bad for him, but he can only blame his parents. If they had the time to start a business and raise a son from 2 to 13, they certainly had time to apply to be citizens.

Let's say Lalo stays, he is looking for work - so is my son. They apply for the same job. Lalo says he will work for a buck an hour less (remember he isn't paying taxes). He gets the job and my son does not. I'm here legally and pay my fair share of taxes. Does this sound fair ?

nope, not wrong at all, ship him and his family back to mexico where they belong.
Mexico would do it to americans in the same position.

why should we taxpayers pick up the tab for his parents.

Just like any other child in this country, he/she does have certain hardships put on them because of their parents.
If I spend my daughters college fund, should the taxpayers be forced to pay her way? NO.

Dont blame us for his position, how about we throw them all back and maybe the parents of others will think twice before violation our laws.

I have no compassion whatsoever for anyone in this country illegally, regardless of how they got here.

when he turned 18 he was old enough to know he was illegal, his choice was to stay here under illegal premise instead of the proper choice of going back to tacoland and applying for legal entry.
