Was just reading through the 'back and forth' in the meet and greet section and this song came to mind.

Been a Rhonda Vincent and the Rage fan for a while now. One of the better versions, out of the many, many excellent versions out there. That's Boxcar Willie doing what he does best, right there in the beginning.

Another one from Rhonda Vincent. Again, one of the better versions out of many well-done versions.

I've recently "discovered" Nora Jones and the Little Willies. It was love at first sight.

I accidentally found Judy Carmichael on 91.3 this afternoon, and damn glad I did. She's the host of "Jazz Inspired" radio show, and she performs as a musician.

Judy's well-known for her stride piano style; no less a personage than Count Basie nicknamed her "Stride."

This is a pretty good video where he details the elements of stride, and you can hear the connection between ragtime, jazz, boogie-woogie, and other styles. I've heard that boogie-woogie came about from pianists being too fat to stride very far on the keyboard. Don't know how true that is, but it makes a good story.

Here's Dr. John playing a boogie-woogie tune that you can see the connection in. You can see for the most part that while his left hand is quite busy, it's in a much narrower range than if he were striding.
