I guess it's been awhile since you've been to DC. That section of 14th street that was the famous "red light" area is looooooong gone!
A lot of it moved over to 11th St.

Harry's (corner of 11th & E st) has good food, and reasonable prices. It's around the corner from Ford's Theater which is worth a visit. Also nearby is the Navy Memorial/museum and the National Archives.
I was wondering what are the top spots in DC to check out? I'll definitely be going to the museums and viewing the monuments. Any places to eat and other attractions that aren't as well known?
I don't know whether Harry's is separate, but I know that Harriet's (in the same hotel) gets very lousy reviews on http://www.tripadvisor.com . I prefer (in the museum neighborhood) "Hill Country Barbecue" at 7th and D Streets NW, which has a very lively, festive atmosphere .
Your best source of information about visiting Washington would be http://www.tripadvisor.com . They rank every attraction in the city, in order from most popular, to least popular, based on tens of thousands of detailed reviews from visitors. They do the same with rating every hotel, and every restaurant in town.
Most people here on the Southern Maryland forum, based on their comments, seem to rarely if ever go sightseeing in Washington, and have wildly inaccurate ideas about the city as it is today. I also disagree with the other poster that there is any prostitution, or even a single porn business, on 11th Street (although I don't know which portion of that street he/she means).
