What was 6 year old doing in midnight screening?

It is going to be difficult for anyone to identify him as the shooter. He was dressed like the "Call to Duty" cover and nobody present during the shooting could identify him. The police found a guy dressed somewhat like the shooter in a car parked out back. Other than the fact he booby-trapped his apartment (another set of laws broken) this is not a slam-dunk for the prosecution.

:ohwell:

That's what I thought and he told the police about the explosives at his apartment. I saw this on 3 different TV stations, but who knows with the media.

I thought he admitted it too, when they got him. he even has a lawyer. THe kicker is, how many book deals the lawyer and any potential juror (hopefully it won't even get that far) will get out of this.

why a lawyer -- what defense does he have?

In our system anything can be plea bargained away. CO has the death penalty. I imagine he will need a lawyer to plea away from that sentence. not to mention anyone that gets arrested and charged with a crime should immediately get a lawyer. It's just smart.

i know, its just crazy. i'm sure more will be revealed like where did he learn that (internet? part of a larger group?). sad crazy situation. one guy was just biking through that town, decided to catch the movie. took a bullet in the throat. how life can turn on a dime.....

So many things go through our brains trying to wrap our thoughts around it:

Wanting hard and quick justice.

Trying to understand what made this apparently intelligent kid do this.

What can we do to avoid it again?

How much does violent video games, tv, and gratuitous sex everywhere play into this behavior?

How much does divorce and the crumbling of the core family unit play into these things?

Are we really going down a horrible path as a society?

I really feel I got to a point a long time ago to stop worrying about what outside factors might affect my kids and just take full responsibility for providing them all of their needs, morals and love. Never ever trust they will get it from something or someone else. The days of community and good neighbors and trust in our educators, coaches, etc… are long gone.

There have been massacres for centuries... Sure, we can point and blame the media, games, liberals, conservatives and such, but what I think it really boils down to is what is going on in this persons head... Pretty sure it all starts with a mental disorder to be able to follow through with such a heinous act... Our society is so wrapped up with "the blame game" that the real core of the matter (mental wiring) is often ignored.

I'm sure Tipper Gore will blame AC/DC again.

I’m not necessarily pointing to any of them. I’m just stating what might be on peoples’ minds to find reasons why these things happen. I stated somewhere else (I can’t remember exactly where) that these things are pretty rare and only by our media exploiting it with endless analysis and nonsense gives us a feeling like it’s a bigger problem than it really is.

But that also underplays what a big deal it is that a guy got into a crowded movie theater, dressed in full military protective gear, and indiscriminately butchered so many people. If we’re going to claim we’re a more civilized society then we have to try to seek answers as to why people ‘snap’ like this. But, I might argue that we aren’t really a more civilized society.

As far as blame goes… enough to go around I suppose; but I’m in the school that the individual is ultimately to blame. This guy was smart enough to gather up all these weapons, ammo, and plan this out so meticulously, one could hardly blame something or someone else. Of course, it is my thought that he might have had help.

As a mother of a 6 year old, I thought the same thing. Personnally, I wouldn't take my 6 year old to see this movie, much less at midnight, but that's me. I'm sure the parents are questioning themselves at this point as well. That choice left them without a 6 year old. Now they have a funeral to plan.

Wondering why won't change it. There is a 6 year old that is now dead. Is it due to bad parenting? It's due to a lunatic that shot up a movie theather. Hang the shooter, not the parents that made a not so good choice to bring their 6 year old to a midnight movie, I can think of worse things parents do with their kids.

You are absolutely correct, there are worse things that can be done to a child. And i would like to think that noone here is trying to blame the parents for the child's death.

In the aftermath of such a horrific event it is easier emotionally to focus on the details than to try to deal with the grief of the event as a whole. We can analyze and argue over the parents' decision a lot more comfortably than we can the shooter's.

They are not your children so WHY do you care?? You whinny noisy busy body's MYOFB and go back to mamby pamby land.

FY, I never said that it was ok to take your children to the movies at that time of night, I just said that what people do with their children is their business, not anyone Else's.
FCS get a life and mind your own business.

1.) They were at the movies, not a night club.

2.) If I did it would be none of your FX^$ing business!!

3.) Go back to school.

Wow, you really come out fighting. It's a forum, people are entitled to their own opinion. This is news, not like it's a private family thing, so you really can't say MYOB. You don't have to bash everyone for posting how they feel.

my wife asked the very same question ........

WHAT WAS 6 YEAR OLD DOING IN MIDNIGHT SCREENING?

I haven't seen the movie, but kids saw ice age the same day.

What rating was the Batman movie given? PG13 or R? The previews looked fairly violent.

In my opinion, a 6 year old shouldn't be there with or without adult supervision.

Wait for it to come out on dvd, rent it, and watch it at home...and no kids need to be up at midnight...it isn't like this was a "family event" or anything.

Really selfish, and irresponsible of the parents.
